  The only skills you can't use is Death By Revolver and Multiheadshot. You also get mastery, but thats not a good as a real "mastery".
  
  There are a large amount of rangers who use cannons and muskets.
  
  Cannons really pump your damage for those who are very confident with their juggles. Muskets have 50% more range than a revolver, allow you to pretty much snipe enemies across the screen with Rising Shot and Headshot.
  
  Though I agree, if you make your first character a ranger, you'll be tied for mawney.

  the cat finds at least two purple items a day

  even from all the purples the cat find, the cat barely has money for his battle mage and can't afford to buy attack speed avatars. This is particularly, the cat's stuff wont sell. The cat's 2nd character is a blade master who is just as expensive. The cat is currently playing a nen master which is fun as hell to play. (the cat wonders why he never made a fighter, too late)

  Much easier gameplay, more mp friendly, a little less defensive.
  
  In 1v1 a battle mage tends to be the better choice but for dungeoning and general gameplay witch is superior. And witches hold their own very well in pvp anyways.
  
  You said you wanted a ranger. That can be your 1v1 character if you want. Just be very careful with your witch builds. Witches have one of the easiest to ruin builds in the game.

  Reason number 1 is, unlike a percent based character like Rangers, Witch skills are fixed damage. This means the ONLY way to increase your damage is to level up your skill, as stronger weapons will have almost no impact on your damage. This makes your character less expensive compared to the millions of gold you'll spend on a single revolver for your ranger.
  
  Reason number 2 is...
  
  Witches have 4 different familiars, and she borrows their powers for all her spells.
  They come with Befriend skills, which pretty much work like Mastery, cept a little different. Each witch skill has a "failure, success, and jackpot" variation, with certain % chance of each occuring.
  
  Friendlies will increase your rate of success and jackpot. The skill itself will change depending on the result of your roll. This means you absolutely want to max out your friendlies, since hitting a jackpot will make your skill's effectiveness double, or even triple (while failure can actually even hurt yourself or ruin the entire party).
  
  Since you need to max out friendlies, AND you need to max out the skills you're using since they're fixed damage, you can only pick TWO out of the FOUR familiars and max those two only. This means you WILL sacrifice about a third of the skills available and never use them.
  
  Make your build wisely. Pick two from Ice, Light, Dark, and Fire.
  
  For example, my witch is a fire and dark build. I don't have Florae Collider, I don't have Acid Rain, and I don't have Mega Drill, because those are ice/light skills. This is a big sacrifice as Mega Drill is considered one of the strongest attacks in the game.

  I'm done with this game for now... Gonna play soku instead.

  You didn't consider what I said at all D:
  Max out friendlies. Level 10!! And then get gear to push them to level 11 or even 12! ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT that you minimalize failure as much as possible. Max out skill levels. Your damage will stay the same if you don't (exception is broomstick spin, its percent based so just keep it at 5).
  
  Example: Flyswatter failure summons hunters that attack you. These hurt, even more than most regular dungeon enemies.

  You can't survive without level 5 mana shield, and at least level 1 phase shift. You NEED quick rebound, while backstep is arguable.
  
  Death Dust is superior whether you have mastery for it or not. If you don't think you'll melee often, take it off, but I melee with my broom all the time (great way to deal lots of damage against enemies without superarmor, saves plenty of mp). If you want you can max Snow Dust, but I hate freezing enemies in mid juggle. Its safer to use it against tougher enemies though, as freezing them could save your life. If you want to see some freezes, max it.
  
  Gave you 1 Manteau. Utility use. Use it to grab enemies (your only grab move). Also gives you invincibility for about 2 seconds, which you can use to dodge attacks.
  
  You have a few options with the SP you have remaining.
  
  1. Get Dragon Fang and Palm Strike. They're wonderful for melee fights, something you'll do as a witch.
  2. Max out Magic Missile. Its actually quite powerful.
  3. Max out Magic Festival. You'll reduce cool down and cast speed, making your skills more spammy.
  4. Max out Ancient Memory. You'll increase your damage by about 80% during its duration.
  5. Max out Ancient Library. You'll get about 1400 mp out of it every dungeon run, which is great to conserve potions, and in future updates it will give you enough int to boost your damage by about 30% too.
  6. Get Shururu. At lower levels it won't last more than a few seconds but it can really be useful as a distraction.
