Party Revival Feather trouble

I keep trying to assign my party revival feather to a quickslot but it won't go. I tried to put it in 1,4, and 5. I keep getting a message saying that it cannot be assigned there. I also read that I can use the feather without assigning it to a quickslot. What do I do?

Are you sure your 4th and 5th slots are open to any items being added there? I believe you start with only 3 slots in the game early on. Also, unless there's some glitch I don't know about, you do need a slot for your party revival feather.
