1080p Blu Ray? I'd recommended you just get more RAM or turn off everything but the player. When I watched the Haruhi movie, the lag was intense since I had 1080p with fairly large video size, had to turn off all my programs or anything using a lot of memory just to watch it smoothly.
I use Zoom Player for all my Anime, works fine as long as my RAM/Memory doesn't overflow.
Like above, CCCP codec.

CCCP Codec always works, but it doesn't work if you have a sucky computer like myself that can only play 720p or below without lagging.
Nonetheless, I use "GOMplayer" as my player (google it) since they have a large database of codecs that allow you to download any of it at any time if you need it to play a video. It usually has a lot of updates so that it doesn't get bugs and such, so it's pretty reliable.
P.S. type in "taskmgr" in your "Run" Function if you want to close programs.

KMP, aka The KM Player is absolutely reliable. The hard part is finding the website, as it is only in Korean.
Once installed, it does prompt for updates. I'll put up a download of it.

I would not touch the random "Korean" download links, if I were you. :|
I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema, installed together with the CCCP (which is a codec bundle--not a codec in itself). I've talked to some of the CCCP devs a while back and I remember them mentioning testing for performance optimizations on low-end systems. MPC is definitely one of the most lean and efficient video players.

And if you installed any random codec packs already, you may want to uninstall those before you install CCCP.

It's not random, and you might want to try it before you knock it down. It's featured on CNet and other sites, but if you wish to get it from the source, the website is Korean.
