Hello everyone. So, to make a long story short, my 2008 Laptop seems to be dying on me or so. I get slight lag spikes every now and then all day on mabi and Vindictus. Are these manageable? Yes. Are they annoying? So-so. However, whenever I get on Skype, the spike lasts for 10-15 seconds or longer and is much much worse. I know that Skype isn't designed for gaming at all, unless your computer is good. With that being said, I've started to research what other people use and have come across vent, teamspeak, and mumble. I don't remember how to check my computer's stats, so I can't give you that information....unless someone tells me how. What I'm asking is, should I suck it up and continue to use Skype and get a better computer eventually, or should I just get rid of Skype for gaming period and switch? And if I do switch, which one should I use between the 3 I listed? Like I said, I did do some research about how they all compare to one another, but I'd still like to hear what you all use. I tried to talk it over with my friends, who don't lag that much from Skype, and the guild leader doesn't seem to want to switch, as I recall him saying Vent makes some annoying noise or so.
Help? :T_T:

Free Teamspeak servers offer free rooms, with passwords and up to 16 members per room.
They're all pretty cheap/lagless.

Ventrilo's fairly good if you disable the sounds that it makes. If not, Xfire is a good program that I've used from experience. Don't know much about the others though.

Teamspeak huh? But isn't the current one, Teamspeak 3 in beta still? I don't think I'd mind trying out any of these, but those that cost some money, such as Vent's more than 8 person thing is a no go. *begins reading up on every VOIP*
EDIT: I forgot to add one very important thing. One of the people who we are normally on Skype with is mute, so we'll need some kind of message log or w/e it's called.

Check your stats by right clicking my computer -> properties.
Pay attention to your processor (name is important, not just ghz) and ram.
I doubt that your laptop has a graphics card.

All computers have graphics cards...

If your computer is dying, it's best to get a new one anyways. I like Skype though. Not enough people I know willing to get on Ventrilo, and it seems a lot of people I know have Skype.

A lot of low end computers use integrated graphics. Not really graphics cards, are they?

Yes, they are. They're just integrated. Your computer can't run without a graphics card.

Mumble's good quality, not very laggy on your PC, but no one uses it really, or hosts servers.

You can easily build a nice computer online for under 400 dollars that could run even the newest of games.
Well not completely new but stuff like crysis, badcompany 2, and stuff like that.
You can also check your computers specs by right clicking on "My Computer" and going to "Properties"
2-3 years (for me) usually calls for an upgrade or a new computer.
If you get a new one, I guess a desktop instead of a laptop.
And build one. For about the same price for any low ended factory PC, you could build a much better one for gaming and many other uses.
You could add more virtual RAM if you haven't already, that helps a little.

*right clicks on my computer and goes to properties* I've seen this before...huh.
System: Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 202
Service Pack 3
HP
AMD Turion (tm) X2 Dual Core
Mobile RM-70
1.00 GHz, 1.74 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension
That's everything it said. Did that help, if at all?

Wow, those specs are pretty bad... I suggest you go out and buy a new computer. Or build one, if you know how to, because that's always cheaper. Preferably a desktop because those usually have more power than a laptop.

yea, it's definitely a time for upgrade to a new computer.
At least a duo core at 2.0ghz and 2gb of ram.
Desktop preferred.
Graphics card is... Unless you build one, you'll get crap
Bt yea, I suggest you get a new computer
