http://www.examiner.com/mmorpg-in-national/nexon-america-sees-fourth-quarter-revenue-boost
Nexon America has announced that its revenues in the fourth quarter of 2010 had increased by 42 percent since last year, marking a strong surge for the publisher's North American arm.
The company attributes the growth to a strong December, which saw itself a 60 percent increase. MapleStory released its "Big Bang" expansion during this time frame, even breaking its concurrent player record.
Nexon America CEO Daniel Kim commented:
Nexon has perfected a formula for gameplay with a business model that attracts players and keeps them loyal. Players don’t have to pay a cent to enjoy Nexon’s games, but our players who do pay to enhance their gameplay experience tend to spend more than the typical social gamer or subscription-based game player. Evidence of the success of this formula was seen with the release of the Big Bang expansion and the resulting increase in concurrent players and revenues.
Nexon America publishes MapleStory, Mabinogi, Combat Arms, Dungeon Fighter Online, Vindictus, and PopTag! in North America, with Dragon Nest, a new action MMO, scheduled for launch in 2011.

Of course they care about their customers except the customers just ignore those times when they do care. Why you think they ban Hackers in Maplestory, fix bugs/events in Mabinogi, and other games?

They do care only if it affects their revenue and records (eg: concurrent player record) for bragging rights.
Which is normal but seriously it should be questioned if it is the right thing to do at the expense of player enjoyment.
If you hate the service, make enough noise to break their reputation on the area of player enjoyment and then you might really see change coming in to benefit both sides.

This is exactly what I am talking about. When Nexon shows that they care, players just brushes it to the side. You can say that to ALL service related companies, which is almost every company.
It is impossible to satisfy some customers in any business. They will always just complain.
If the player's enjoyment revolves around hacks/glitches, yea, they have to do the right thing at the expense of player enjoyment.

Actually I think it depends.
I never really cared about hacks/glitches unless they affect many people negatively. Sure, I can rant about it but there is seriously nothing I can do if these people can't do anything.
E.g. mass login event for the freebie present back then, which caused the servers to be filled with mules and making it extremely laggy for everyone.
Reputation is difficult to break if those some customers complain nonsensically. It's the people with the valid points that will count.
Right now there is seriously not enough ground to convince NA that giving back old service model will boost their revenue. Partly because of monopoly. There is tough competition for MMORPGs in CN and KR which is why they wouldn't dare to remove old service. They will lose a lot of customers for sure.

nexon's service and patches are putrid (speaking of my vindictus experience). They do fix their problems, but often end up shafting many players in the process. The most recent one being the mass banning of those taking advantage of tieve's box, which banned a lot of people including innocents, and even left some severe exploiters untouched. They don't ban hackers or exploiters unless they get an avalanche of tickets complaining about it.
not to mention their half assed updates for things that should have been applied months ago. They conveniently left it out then announced it as a super cool new patch months later.
AND not to mention their ticketing service, having them respond to your needs, legitimate or otherwise, is a miracle on its own.
granted, they did fix the whole lag issue a few months after open beta, har har.
despite this i still play their game rarely, but it's honestly piss poor service wise. that's why im moving on to P2P -.-

Well, they can definately afford better servers to resolve the issue with Alexina, and monster lag. If the population in their games are on the rise, they need to keep up with it and expand. Instead of releasing new games to take up the space they could have used to improve.

The way they handled the "Tieve Exploit" made me quit. I only had a 7 day ban, which I shouldn't have even gotten; but my friend, who was pretty much the only one I played with, got permabanned.
Even banning at all for that is so stupid. It totally killed it for me.
I mean, I knew the company was incompetent... But really, you get better service on some free illegal fan run server than Nexon. That's just sad.

While taking into consideration of what your saying is true... This was unfair...
and shouldnt have happened but... BUT!..
I consider them banning people for the tieve thing to be good.

Mass Bannings and Innocents Banned on Vindictus?
Now why does that sound familiar?
OH WAIT! I know! The same god darn thing happened with the dupe glitch. Banned 2700 Mabinogi Users. Most of them Innocents and a lot of the Dupers got off scotch free.
Nexon can't handle mass bannings correctly. They've demonstrated this twice.
They can't get the mob lag under control on the servers which REALLY irritates me. They really need to get their crud together or one of these days they'll find that they lost a massive drop in revenue. Although at this rate, I highly doubt it.

It was a gray area thing, not some clearly obvious exploit like the 3rd boat glitch back in the day. Permanent bans are too much... they could have done any length of ban and even taken away anything gained from it and it would have been a better punishment to match the offense. They were way too harsh...
I can't forgive them.
