I'm putting this into questions and help because I need some suggestions for this problem.
Mainly because we ran Fomor Raid (Tara Castle) and then as what my partner was saying in G13 the magic defence calculations will be based on int.
As a result, the bolt-shooting statues no longer just deal 1-2 damage, it's now something between 6-30 damage. I have 40 defence stats and only 12 magic resistance.
Elf who has 0 defence (actually 1 hp build as well) and 16 magic resistance gets dealt 100+ in hp damage.
Is raising int the only way to deal with this? And how are the calculations like?
Seems like it's no longer the most effective mission to run anymore and most people will be switching over to The Other Alchemists instead for regular leveling.

To me it seem pretty fair.
Normal Def block out Melee and ranged attack.
Magic def block out Magic and Alchemy attacks.
Anyway.. a bunch of enchants raise int. Other directly raise Magic def.
As for the calculations, I don't know. Never tested it and I prefer to avoid these statues like plague

Use Magic Shields?
I never knew that Fomor Attack or any of the Tara Castle SM was considered good leveling places... people rarely do them around here unless it is after a certain item. (Like Enchant or Shock Page)

They are good leveling places here.
Someone did use magic shields but the damage doesn't really get reduced...It only removes the knockback that the statues cause, but only within the certain area.

Even if shields are being overlapped? I guess they only reduced during pre-G13, but not afterwards in other versions of Mabinogi?

Fire/Ice/Lightning Shield reduce their respective elemental damage by 50% at r5 and 75% at r1.
Natural Shield reduces the damage of ranged attacks by 33% at r5 and 50% at r1.
Overlapped shields additively resist damage. Two players with r5 Fire Shield whille take 1 damage from Fireball if the shields overlap.
You can substitute magic shields for Evasion if they're at a low rank. Simply block the first hit using defense/magic shield and evade twice (rA required for the faster recovery).

It needs more testing since the player who used it just now in our party possibly has only Rank F magic shield. I doubt the wrong type of magic shield was used because we could move in it. But I was still getting quite a lot of damage from the statue.

By statue, you mean the Cerberus?
Those are a pain, regardless. :\
You could have one person hold up a shield and put mana shield on and the rest can evade or do whatever.
And the shields do add together, but I've never run into a person using higher than rF of any barrier spells. xD

Magic shield does really help, actually.
The bolts only did like 1~10 damages to me, and I have around 26 magic defenses on me.

Defense/Windmill invincibility frame plus r9+ Evasion does the trick for me.
Still, the Cerberus changed from annoying to threatening now.

I always thought it was threathening.
Getting shot by 3 arrows is >:U
Too bad you can't smash that statue to bits.

My defense against Cerberus has just increased 10 times.
Defense = 3
Magic Defense = 32
But yea, Magic Shields are very underrated. Even at low ranks it's still helpful, if not just for the stun-ignoring property.

how does the +15 innate defense from a shield factor into this?

Pfffbt. Just rank your magic shields or get a mage with ranked magic shields to do it with you. Mine are all rC except for Fire which is still at rF but I make up for that by wearing all fire elementals. The Cerberus pre-G13 always did 1's except for a crit 2 or 3 Icebolt due to my elementals. I'll have to run it again sometime to see how much they've increased but I need to change my elementals again. Maybe people will actually run into my shields now.
