But I was able to survive by transforming when the thunder was supposed to strike. I'm not familiar with thunder; I thought thunder's initial bolt always stuns until the final bolt falls. How is this possible?

You can't be attacked while going into trans. Also, all skills stop until you're finished, so if the skill "times out" before you finished transing, it wouldn't hit you.

Maybe transformation is the exception.

You can also dodge 2 of the 5 thunder strikes by using fake death at the right time.
Guess we can call that ground tech'ing. In case you're out of transform...
But 3 thundr strikes would kill you anyways.

It stuns monsters, but players can move around, sort of. At least in terms of they can use their skills.
Transformation + High Mana + Mana Shield can withstand Thunder though.

Really? e.e thunder from at r6+ and from Monsters can do well over 5000 damage easily. I dont think you could survive that unless you had Lightning Magic Shield+Lightning Elemental Enchants. And even then you still might not survive.

Does it matter where the enchants are?
OT: Most of the time that I've been hit by thunder, I was completely stunned until the final bolts. I don't know why this time was different. I don't remember being hit before the stunning bolt hit me.

I thought that it didn't matter where you put the elementals, but how many of them? Or was I wrong?

You're right. Xiya is wrong.
Also, Magic Shields, Mana Shield, and some other skills can be loaded while in Thunder stun, along with Trans. I'm not sure what else.
I was able to survive all 5 bolts by activating Mana Shield, transforming, and casting Lightning Shield all during the stun. Though, it completely wiped my mana and put me into deadly.
