There is usually a limit on how powerful you can make what you are wearing. like u can have a suffix and prefix enchant with upgrades. that is it. Then they added set items wich will improve your character in a way, if u collect them all, just like in Diablo 2. I love the set items (Hebona, Adonis, etc.), but i hope they dont go crazy with them by making 20 sets for each Destiny (warrior, etc), cause then it will be like Diablo 2 in this way: What you wear, is half of your power. xD
I love diablo 2 by deh way, i just want Mabinogi to atleast not change the fact that u dont have to wear Pro stuff in order to be uber powerful. ^^

But Pro Stuff does greatly help without a doubt. Never underestimate the power of enchants. They add a lot of power to your character depending on which enchants you choose, how much risk you place in high ranking enchants, and how dedicated you are to getting the best possible enchants/sets.

He doesn't want your power to be based off of your equips.

But isn't the point of equips to help boost your power? Just like every other MMO? It's the fact about games. You get gear to become more powerful.

Well, yeah, most of the time. So I guess he means that he doesn't want
most of the power being based off of your equips.

Your power is already greatly influenced by your equipment.
Warriors tend to enchant for damage, critical and defensive bonuses; increasing their effectiveness and durability.
Rangers tend to enchant for damage and critical; increasing their effectiveness.
Mages tend to enchant for mana/mana reduction and defensive bonuses; increasing their efficiency and durability.
Alchemists tend to enchant for damage and critical; increasing their effectiveness.
Melee damage is primarily composed of equipment bonuses. Strength is secondary. Your skills provide damage multipliers.
Ranged damage is equally composed of dexterity and equipment bonuses. Your skills provide damage multipliers.
Magic damage is primarily derived from your skills. Your stats and skills provide damage multipliers.
Alchemy damage is primarily derived from your skills. Equipment is secondary. Your skills provide damage multipliers.
Set effects have existed for quite a long time. Specialization is DevCat's way of keeping players from becoming quickly overpowered.

It already is.
more than 90% of mabinogi players rely on their enchants/upgrades.

Especially when it comes to weapons. Weapons are our main fighting force and upgrading that and enchanting that is the most important portion for any character.

I hate how stronger the field bosses have become, especially Uladh field boss. I see a Giant Ogre Warrior and thought I could one shot it and be on my way, but no... 3k crit just doesn't cut it anymore. xD

Well, they have to compensate for how much stronger we've become...

They were a relic of the past, something I am proud to one shot before because they screwed me over in my newbie days. Now that pleasure is taken away from me. The monster that laugh at my corpse during my newbie days become so weak as I grew strong, that I am able to one hit kill it and continue on my path like a shounen hero, apparently has once again become a monster which needs my attention to fight.
