I think its better to have a known villain though.

Some corrections:
- Onslaught was the boss in Marvel vs. Capcom 1. Abyss was the boss of MvC2, and as far as I know was a completely original boss.
- Amaterasu is the name of the protagonist of Okami. It is in the game, yes.
In general the bosses of this series force you to throw away any and all actual skill you have at the game to beat them. Don't be disappointed, because you're never going to enjoy "giant boss" fights in fighting games.

It's my experience that they can be just as cheap when they aren't towering over you.
