Range

Range needs life skilling a lot for good dex (AP)
Magic needs a good income to pay for wand repairs and mana pots(Money)
Both of them takes time before becoming good.
Take whatver you can spare in bold.(aka, money or AP)

First off, whatever you do, get Critical Hit to r1 unless you are avoiding all types of combat completely.
Of those two sets of skills (except Critical Hit), magic can give you the most damage without having you to resort to getting lifeskills/skills that +dex that arn't ranged.

You make it sound like life skilling doesn't take money. Life skilling takes money more than just AP. Magic requires tons of AP, but relatively low money compared to life skilling. Although, in the long term, spamming advance magic does cost you quite a bit on mana pots if you aren't making your own.

Rank Crit first of all. No, really. Crit now.
Although you can go either way, you will end up being both, seeing how elfs are SUPER archers and great mages. If you were going to start with one, I would recommend archers first. But try to get Refine out of the way first or as you rank your other skills.
1. Crit
2. Range
3. Mag
4. Barrier Spikes
Edit: Yes, life skills take either a *** load of time, or a good amount of money, and a LOT more than AP. In fact, training life skills is a joke in terms of ap....compared to the time it takes to rank them.

Magic Costs much more AP than Range. Thats with Adv and Int magic of course. But, even with the skill she listed to compare, magic will still cost more AP since crit is a must for any skill.
Have you considered finishing Alchemy? R1 Flame Burst and Heat Buster is pretty beast with R1 Fire Alchemy.

Personally, I'd go for magic so I could flip-flop between mp-consuming magic and sp-consuming alchemy.
Magic does NOT require as much work in life skills, unless you make your own potions.
Magic is also more AoE (unless you like your bolt skills, which I don't recommend because you have alchemy for those) with int. or adv. magic.
life skills: composing+music theory (pretty cheap, good int.) and maybe herbology+potion-making.

Ego bow dura dies fast and you need money to repair it.

Because you don't have to waste a golem. And instead of charging 5 and hitting 1, you can charge 5 and hit multiple.

well i guess magic is more helpful if i use stam i can go 2 mp but which thunder or ice spear?
-
loltastic659 wrote on 2011-02-01 01:55
thunder is generally seen as the better skill.
Thunder has considerably more AoE, while ice spear only hits in a straight, linear line.
And supposedly ice spear is one GIANT mp hog.

hmmm i guess u rite, now whats the easist and cheapest way 2 get mp pots
-
loltastic659 wrote on 2011-02-01 02:01
Generally, you can buy them or you can make them. They're both on opposite ends of the easy/cheap spectrum.
I've heard good things about growing mp50 pots in alchemy, but I haven't tried it myself yet.
