I'm trying to become a Royal Alchemist and right now I am putting all my AP into only two types of Alchemy, Clay and Mana Crystals. I have stopped mana crystalizzation at rank 9 for now and working on Golems and Clay Alchemy, and I'm planning to start barrier spikes as well. But my question is, do you think to become a royal it is better to have a few skills very high? Or get every Alchemy skill into the mid range (B-7ish)? I ask because right now I am missinng Flame Burst and Frozen blast from my skill set, And I'm wondering if it's worth my time to rank water cannon and air blast to get both of these skills, or if I'm better off doing what I'm doing right now which is just specializing in Earth Alchemy. If the royals here want to say which theydo (a few very high ranked skills or many mid ranked skills), that would be appreciated.

I think that having a decent journal point and just a few r1 Alchemy skills is enough to be a Royal Alchemist. The exact details is kind of a mystery though. If keep ranking your Alchemy Skills, you will get it eventually.

Specializing, definitely.

I have close to 1700 in my journal. I'd have more if the missions would stop deleting themselves from my journal when I log out.
I didn't mention up top by my top alchemy ranks are
Alchemy Mastery A
Clay Mastery B
Summon Golem 9
Mana Crystal 9
Transmutation A
Everything else is either F, Novice, or with FB and FB, not learned because I have ranked anything else.

The skills are kinda meh.

The skills I have are meh? I'm sorry I've only been an alchemist for 3 weeks. I think that's pretty good XP

IMO You should do watercannon like all the other RA's..

Don't get offended, haha. He didn't mean it that way. He meant you need to get more higher ranks, if not more Rank 1s.
Keep working on it. Good progress so far though.

Focus on one skill at a time, distributing your AP into several skills at once will make them mediocre at best.

If your only working on golems and mana crystallization, There is no point to even be a royal alchemist

Quantity > Quality for RA. As many ranked skills as possible is just as good as the same amount of rankings, but in fewer skills. So to become RA, it's more AP-efficient to be generalized.

That's just where I'm starting, not necessarily where I'll finish.
So far, it seems two for Specializing and 1 for generalization. And in fact one of my in game friends who's an RA apparently only has 4 Rank 1 Alchemy skills. So I'm still leaning toward sticking with the Earth stuff for the time being, with a splash of transmutation (synth, frag, and such)

Meikeru wrote on 2011-02-01 22:39
Avoid the transmutation, they aren't worth it in the beginning. If you can find a buddy who has high synth that could duplicate your crystals go with that.

Fyois wrote on 2011-02-01 22:46
Well I've kind of already been ranking my transmutation mastery but I've only learned Synth and Fragmentation. To be honest I've never totally been sold on either.

Yeah Ra needs much higher standerts, should require at least 5 r1 skills, Then again ra is pretty junky now that g13 is out unless you need to help a firend with g9-12 there really is no need for it
