how good is it?? at what rank is it good enough?? im rank b, thinking about getting to rank 9 and leaving it there. i was wondering if that was a good idea. i use ice counter a lot fyi. right now i don't have any problems with rank b; i just dont like leaving skills at letter ranks if it's that high already.

If you use Magic-Counter as your main way for killing, then Rank Counter to 1. If not, you will not like Counter. Even as a Giant with Rank 1 Counter, I see that Counter is too slow/weak to kill something efficiently. It doesn't even help in multi-aggro. I only use Counter for Magic-Counter or Smash-Counter Loop. The main reason for ranking Counter is for Dex. If you're going to become an archer in the future then you might as well should rank Counter anyway for the most Dex possible.

People do seem to only rank counter for completion or dex-- when your other skills get higher, magic-counter will soon become inefficient at killing higher hp monsters. In addition, as mobs get higher speed and tend to multi, counter will be outclassed by other defensive skills (namely, windmill).
If you want to make your magic-counter go faster, I'd say it's better to rank your magic bolts over counter-- since bolts come in handy for stunning or finishing something off in melee fighting.
A lot of the people I know just rank counter to C for lower stam use and just leave it there.

Yes, rank C is the best, though if you want more damage, then all the way. But you're better off ranking the magic bolts.

Small list of the enchants available for counter...
Prefix Rank 8 Grace for klaus grace armor set (total +6 max damage and +3 min damage if counter is rank 3+)
Prefix Rank 7 Cypress for melee (close-range) weapons (+2 min damage if defense rank 9+, +3 max damage if smash rank 1, +4 max damage if counter rank 6+, BUT minus 100 stamina)
Suffix Rank A Fierce (drops from giant sandworm though) for two-handed weapons (+24 Max Damage if Counter Rank 8+)
Suffix Rank A Powerful (only good for people below age 19 because of -str penalties) for gloves (+3 Max Damage if Defense Rank D+, +4 Max Damage if smash Rank B+, +5 Max Damage if Counter Rank 9+)
Suffix Rank 9 Marshall for shields (+3% Critical if Counter Rank 6+)
The ones I bolded (italics for what I think is hard to obtain but it's good) are what I think are the better enchants for people with high-ranked counter. See if you will use any of these in the future and decide from there.
For me I'm going to rank counter to 1 in the future because of the dex.

Counter is pretty godly in party play against enemies with splash attacks :D
But really, you'll outgrow counter's use slowly as you go. Not that you'll never use it again, but you'll just rely on it less.
Rank C for halved stamina drain, btw.

mmm.... well my main bolt is ice and it's master already, and my fire is 5, which i think is good enough.
looks like from what people say that high counter isn't all that useful o3o
well, ill think about it~ i might just rank it to 9 like i said. argh but i have so many things to rank xD
itll probably end up rank 1 endgame anyways though.
