For the last week or so, every night i dream, i dream i am a 10 year old, who was kidnapped by a mad scientist and taken to lab for human experiments, along with a buncha other kids i dont know. Every night i try to escape, but am always caught and thrown back in.
Its normal for me to have weird dreams like this though, the not so normal part?
This dream has been occuring every few months from the 6th grade, and im a senior in highschool now.
The lab is always the same, and im always 10 or so, the guards and mad scientist are imposable to remember, and a lot of the other test subjects are the same throught the dreams, some have names some dont.
The dreams are not particularly bad or scary, but its irritating not to ever be able to escape. What do you guys think of it?

This sounds rather normal to me. But I either have nightmares all the time, don't dream at all or have the occasional "normal" dream. As someone who has nightmares all the time, I say don't worry about it. It might just be your subconscious working things out.

I dont think the dreams gona hurt me or anything, and its actually pretty interesting. I get kinda irritated when i wake up and realize i still haven't escaped, but im sure eventually it will happen.
I think ive seen enough of the lab i can recreate it on minecraft now, which sounds like a fun project, actually.

Recurring dreams aren't normal. Usually your brain is trying to tell you something important that you're ignoring.
I suggest seeing a hypnotherapist and trying regression. They may be able to uncover what it is that's bothering you since you'll be able to explain it in a way you wouldn't normally be able to while using your conscious mind.
Really though, you need to look at things that are going on in your life or problems you haven't dealt with, that is likely the cause.

Especially if it's been going on for 6 years and has recently been increasing (months to daily).
Although personally I'm not sure about the hypnotherapy... regular therapy might work just as well.

I suggest trying to write a story using your dreams as the basis for the plot.

Well are these dreams scaring you?
I still have reoccuring dreams and I wake up screaming, crying, sweating, ect.
I suggest you see a doctor.

Its not that the frequency has been increasing, before i would have the dream for a few weeks, every day of couple of days, then it would go away for a couple of months, only to come back for a few weeks, then to disapear again.
I just noticed, it is getting close to testing time, though i never really worry about failing a test in real life, perhaps in my dreams i do fear failure (like not being able to escape?) if thats it, then i dont mind having these dreams instead of actual test anxiety in the real world.
I think i will start writing a story using the dreams as a plot, it sounds like a good idea, though im never going to publish it, im not a good enough writer for that.

seems like it's your mind's way of dealing with stress.
-
Ninjam wrote on 2011-02-06 22:09
Must be something like that. Ill figure it out eventually. Probably a mix of watching too much anime and my mind never properly being stressed out like normal people are. I never have had stage fright, despite being in almost every school play for the last 3 years. Nor have i ever worried about tests or grades.
Well, im going to start writing down every detail of the dreams whenever i have them, so i can write about them, or draw them or something like that. It just seems too interesting to not write down.

Nothings wrong with you if that's what you are afraid of. Recurring dreams are actually not that uncommon (being trapped like in your case, is even more common), and very few of these mean there's something "wrong" with you, just an unconscious fear, desire or worry (etc).
Yours seems harmless tbh. But it's never a bad idea trying to figure out the meaning of the dream.

Stress release is a dream function, with everyone (even when you don't remember dreams or anything, that's one of the reasons you dream)

If you write every detail of your dream -
right after waking up - you will start remembering other details you wouldn't have noticed before, and may clue you in on something.
_
Can you tell me how you
feel during the dream? How do you feel when you get caught again?
but its irritating not to ever be able to escape
This could mean there's something you want to do in life, but you are unable to for different reasons.
Or the opposite, you are doing something that you don't want to do (like choosing a wrong career), and feel like you want a change in your life.

They all make a lot of sense. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the dreams, but i just thought it was weird this morning when i woke up and realized how ive had these same dreams back in middle school, and how even now i still have them.
Its sometimes like im watching an anime, with me fighting off hoards of guards but always being beat. Ill start writing them down right after i wake up, there usually not hard to remember, but how can i know i forgot some details if i already forgot them?
And usually when i get caught, its mostly a disappointing feeling, that i just haven't escaped yet.

Is this another dream?
There's an obvious connection of failure to achieve your goal.
Maybe you are worried about this?

You don't, but they'll come back to you as you write, remember to write every single detail you can think of. A well known technique (because it works wonders) for dream recall is self suggestion. Before going to sleep you repeat to yourself (in your head) to remember your dream, and preferably also make yourself wake up right after your dreams, so the memories are fresh. Since the reason people forget dreams is because the mind "protects" you from them, as they may contain disturbing material, (In Freud words: Your super-ego is asleep when dreaming, so you get a glimpse into your id, then you wake up and super-ego starts working) but it won't erase the dream completely right after you had it.
