My friend's school recently approved of gender neutral housing/dorming for their students. I thought it was an interesting change and I wondered what people thought about the idea.
In RL, you can most likely rent an apartment with any person (boy, girl, grandma), provided that you do pay the rent.
Do you think gender neutral dorming/housing is a good or bad idea for students at a university or college?
Gender neutral as in, there are no dorms for boys or dorms for girls. You can roommate with a guy or a girl, regardless of your gender.

I don't really see the problem.
Sexual activity can't be considered an argument since if you're one hall or building over, you can do it whenever the hell you want anyways.
And like you mentioned, you can room with a girl when you get an apartment, so why not?

I care more about what kind of person they are. Their gender doesn't matter as long as they're clean enough, and not very loud.

When you say "loud".........
Also, I'm sure you will have much "loud"er neighbors now.

The only annoyance I can find is when a girl is trying to change when she comes out of the shower and her male roommate's in the room with her.
Otherwise, not much else. In fact, having a female roommate would prob have the room smelling fantastic all the time. +1

Doesn't seem too bad since it's not like genders are in split housing districts later on in life.

Not hard to set up a curtain setup in your room. Or just change in the shower room.
Or the person can just leave for the time being.
Or in my case, my eyes would be glued to the monitor anyways.

There is gonna be more awkward moments than anything else. I mean from my experience, there is only one room, and people has to share space. Apartments works when one has there own space. So maybe. Would be a pain to not be able to walk in the nude when ever I feel like it, or in my underwear.

Pretty much this.

Yeah this is pretty much the basis of how it's gonna be. Gender neutral dorming isn't that big of a switch I don't think. I mean, my school has co-ed dorms where one floor is female one floor is male. I don't really see that big a difference.

In highschool I had gender neutral gym locker rooms for a few weeks while the girl's side was being repaired. Nothing bad happened there so I don't see any issues with it. If anything it'll just reduce the administrative costs of keeping the boys out of the girls side.

Yeah but Murphy is a douche. So fate would decree something going to screw up.

I lived a co-ed dorm during my time at college. However, it was co-ed by room, and each room was made to be occupied by a single person. Other than a few antics in the hallways of people going to/coming from the showers, there wasn't any issue at all.

You would go around nude if you were rooming with a member of the same sex?
