So different people are resolving different IPs for patches? Shouldn't each machine act as redundant backups for each other instead of just forcing each user to use one separate machine? That's pretty dumb 3:
No, that's pretty normal with a CDN. Different people get different Nexon server IPs by design, to ensure that servers don't get flooded by too many people. The thing is, you have to keep all your servers properly synchronized, and Nexon didn't do that here. They pointed a ton of users at a server with an outdated set of files.

Oh wait. I see. So the 174.35.39.33 server is the old one that hasn't been updated since may, while 174.35.24.78 is the one that they switched to.
Guess it had nothing to do with the ftp connection at all 3:

Can you provide a link to the directory though? It be nice to confirm that we are getting pack files similar to the one at
ftp://mabipatch.nexon.net.
you see i get the same address as you with the 39.33 ending when i ping the server. However, you go and change that to another address is what raise my question.

ftp://174.35.39.33/game/
Here you go, that's the one I see. The crappy bad one that doesn't have the right files.
I wonder how many ftp servers they have then.

Yeah, I change it to force mabipatch.nexon.net to resolve to a server with the right files. Not sure what you mean by asking me for the directory. After editing the HOSTS file, you will be able to access this:

Without the fix, you are pointed at a server which does not contain this directory.

i got it
ftp://174.35.24.78/game/ thanks worldend for the example. when I asked aub for the file should have just give me the address to here or upload it to mediafire. Anyway I think it would've been solve like 6 hours earlier than now.
Back to test my method of replacing the mabinogi.exe with the launcher_xx.bin files.
patch up nicely after i replace the exe with bin file edit as the exe file.

GAH
doesnt work cause when l open notepad as admin and try to find windows->systems32->drivers->etc the hosts file doesnt show up

Make sure All Files (*.*) is selected when you try to open it with Notepad.
-
Worldend wrote on 2011-02-09 21:57
Don't open with notepad, open from explorer and right click on it, then go to Open with... after you check the properties to make sure that it isn't read only.
Also, there are some things I don't get. Like, why does it seem like this is affecting a disproportionate amount of people? and why don't CDNs have a backup redirect in case a server goes right to hell?
Also, why did it give a server busy message when it couldn't find the file? 3: Although I think I know the answer to that one.

This method don't even need to edit your host file.
ftp://174.35.24.78/game go the link and download the launcher_113.bin files
Rename launcher_133.bin files to mabinogi.exe (make sure you have the hide extensions for known file types uncheck in your folder options under tools).
Go to your mabinogi directory should be C:\Nexon\Mabinogi and drop replace the mabinogi.exe and you launch the exe from there.
Should patch up nicely and no hassle.
thanks to Aubog007 for providing the correct IP address to ping and verify.

Well l tried what u guys said but as soon as it gets to the login screen it says that cilent.exe has stopped working
Honestly I was getting sick of NA already and this seems like a perfect time to quit an awesome game that has horrible service >_>

You have to uninstall your mods since it's a new client.exe

Just to let everyone know, it looks like Nexon finally fixed the issue on their end. The 174.35.39.33 server, which previously was outdated, now has the correct files. This fix is no longer needed. Once again, remember to remove the line you added from the hosts file, to insure that if the IP changes in the future, you will not get screwed. :P
Happy playing!
