Alot of people were raised with calculators and dont even know or were taught this method
If it wasnt for the fact my mother taught me this I wouldn't even know about long division
I wonder if anyone was taught the lattice method of multiplication
Its happening faster than I thought...
I read a fictional excerpt once that took place in the far future, where life itself is automated by devices and people were retarded as hell.
They couldn't multiply, or even add at that. They all just used calculators.
One "genius" man one day gathers people and show them the power of a "paper calculator", which was just him writing down numbers to do multiplication. People were shocked to see him be able to do 3 times 7 without a calculator. He told them that "our ancestors used to be able to even do something like long division in their heads" and people were blown away.
I thought we had a bit more time before people stopped knowing how to do basic 4 function math.
Edit: cursive needs to die and disappear. Its a practice that is no longer used anywhere except for elementary school and pharmacy school (because you'll need to read doctor's notes, and those bastards will not write anything unless they get to keep their pen glued to the paper through the entire writing)
