I don't believe it's allowed to be talking about it but I used to play an Aion Private server and I stopped after a while I uninstalled the game had nothing to do with it after that. I never knew about pirating and all of that but I ended up pirating some games without knowing and it shut down my computer and I had no internet for like 10 minutes. I got a message and that all happened. Now I really don't have the money for the actual game currently BUT I would love to play the private server again. Now if I download it and play it is it just the owner of the server that shall get sued or can I have been counted as pirating too?

The owner of the server gets sued most often... Not sure if we're allowed to talk about private servers here anyway.
And if the owner does get sued, just move on to a different private server.

What I'm trying to ask can I be sued somewhat or get into legal trouble also for playing or just the owner?
@edit: So it's safe if I play?

Look at ragnarok online. They totally gave up trying to stop private servers. Many large scale servers out there better than the official one now.

Yeah, Infinite Aion has been like #1 and they had like 7 DDoS attacks still running and probs still #1 (inaionofc)
(Not really 7 more like 2 but I use 7 for EVERYTHING)

Realistically, you won't.
I have an intense dislike of private servers, though.
Especially ragnarok online's. Supposedly, when they were making the transition from Korean RO to global RO, pissed-off hackers decided to completely WIPE OUT the RO servers. As in they game had to practically be redone from scratch.
The private server makers then abused the windows security hole and looted the whole game, and now you have a crapload of private servers.
I mean, private servers are already draining at a MMO's life... but to be THAT much of an idiot?

From a legal standpoint, playing on a private server is fairly safe.
From a computer security standpoint, however, it is not. Different games have different pserver setups, but I'd imagine most would require a hacked client in order to connect to a different (ie. not official) server. That means you can't get a client from a trusted source. The people who hacked the client could inject malicious code into it, to plant a trojan/rootkit on your system. If/when your antivirus detects it, they could tell their players that it was merely a false positive. More often than not, players simply believe it. It sounds crazy, but I've seen it happen.
So yeah, I stay clear of that stuff. It's dumb, unnecessary and just puts your computer at risk for no reason.
