Parental investment:
men- copulation
female- copulation, gestation, lactation
Constraints on reproductive success:
men- number of fertile women they can inseminate
women- quantity & quality of resources they can secure
Hypothesized Consequences for Evolved Sex Difference
-men devote a larger proportion of their total mating effort to short-term mating
-women devote a larger proportion of their total mating effort to long-term mating. Women should by extension be more selective in pursuit of romantic partners.
Clark & Hatfield (1989): An attractive man or woman confederate approached strangers of the opposite sex on a college campus and said, "I've been noticing you around campus. I find you very attractive." The confederate then posed one of three randomly selected questions:
"Would you go out with me tonight?"
% of WOMEN who said Yes: 50%
% of MEN who said Yes: 50%
"Would you come over to my apartment tonight?"
% of WOMEN who said Yes: 6%
% of MEN who said Yes: 69%
"Would you go to bed with me tonight?"
% of WOMEN who said Yes: 0%
% of MEN who said Yes: 75%
Thus, an attractive woman's desire for a short-term commitment brings out man's desire for promiscuity.

So, do you think any of this has validity with regards to explaining relationship problems?
It seems biased towards men, and of course things are always more complex than what is shown at face value. Women also are promiscuous, but not coincidentally they tend to do it to take advantage of men's wealth.
I mostly posted this to show you guys the study, because I thought the results were pretty hilarious.
