Melee is the most noob friendly class IMO. You have a lot of great weapon choices and skills early on, and the first trans you get (Paladin) works well with melee. Being a melee class also gives you more opportunities to rank Windmill, which is a must early on.
Please note that I'm assuming you are a human. If you aren't a human...
Elf: Range
Giant: Melee

Melee with a dabble of magic(Rank 9 Icebolt or Rank 5 Lightningbolt for poking/utility/aggro luring) is what most beginners take. Make sure to prioritize WM as your first skill, with Critical Hit being ranked whenever.
You can go Melee-Alchemist as well, just rank WC first to 5, and then either focus on it more or rank something else.

That depends totally on your own preference.
For my main I mostly focused on Melee, but I have another character that is near pure range. I would suggest playing around with them until you find what works for you. Do note that getting the crystals for the higher level Alchemy stuff and training Alchemy mastery takes a lot of gathering materials (Wood mostly). Its also in my opinion possibly one of the more expensive one's to go with. Some of the skills are fun though, so I'll leave that to you.
But like I said, just play around with everything to see what you like. Its alright to be a little indecisive in the beginning. Just don't waste vast amounts of AP on skills you won't use often.
