This is old news, but I play Zerg again. Mostly cuz I wasn't fallowing build orders early on in the game. But that was back when I was a noob.
I'm still in bronze, but thats because my idiot friend thought it was a good idea to proxy forge/cannons in league games. I beat my platinum friends, so I'm on my way :D
But mainly, I wanna know what else to do at the beginning of a game. Usually, it just goes like this:
select hatchery + spawn + drone
select workers + minerals + split
Send overlord to scout
rally points
select hatchery + spawn + ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddrone.
When I see live casts, they always do complicated **** that I can't keep up with. So, tell me, what are they doing?

Watch the GSL. :]
And what do you mean "select hatchery + spawn + ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddrone"? Are you just making drones? Or do you mean zerglings?

drone->mineral's->build drone's->Mineral spawn (for drones)->Spawn Location ->drone->drone->evolution chamber->3 ling builds/=6 lings->vespene->use lings to harass enemy collectors early game while micro'ing building :D->if working alone roach/hydra or maybe to spitters, also use queen for multiple building and expand quick. If working with other people usually tech to roaches... :D their good defensive against rines specially when used with stalkers (course thats for you and your buddy to do)

What are they doing? They are responding to whenever the player is about to attack, and/or move out. How do you know when they about to move out? That is what the zergling in front of their base/choke is for.
Otherwise, just drone up, and don't forget to expand. Spreading creep is also good at giving you sight of the map, and lets you know where the enemies are.

I love the IdrA build personally. 14 Pool 15 Hatch. Since 2 Rax pressure and 2 Stalker pressure has gotten a bit more popular against Zerg. It keeps you at a macro position while still giving you options to defend.
Also when your first two queens come out, drop a creep tumor before spewing larvae. You won't be able to use the larvae efficiently until your hatches are powered, also the two early creep tumors will go a long way in the end.
