Whenever I listen to Lann speak, all I hear is "getting criticals for Gliding Fury"
Is it really that good? Seems kind of slowish (But I have no clue how much damage it does)
Gliding Fury is good damage, a good aoe, and a fast means of getting in (or out) of mobs. Add in a low stam cost, and the ability to link a lightning fury, and you have a pretty vicious attack.

Yes it is, a big chunk of my damage comes from Gliding Fury. My normal 3 hit, then smash combo takes about 1/7th of a bosses health or so and if I'm able to get a Gliding Fury off, It can do up to 1/5th of it's health, sometimes even 1/4th if it doesn't have TOO much defense. You can also use it to position yourself and get out of the way of an attack. Whenever I use it, I always go to the left or right side of said monster, which makes it have to turn around often or do a turn around attack, which gives me plenty of time to re-position myself and start my combo again.

gliding+lightning fury is higher dps than hurricane in nearly every situation. with max fury infusion, this is a common occurrence.

Swords are only good if you know the invulnerability frames and how to use them

I find in boat 5, being spears is just annoying. First time fighting some bosses (especially in Hilder) I can usually only get a sprint smash>Gliding Fury Combo, Lightning Fury if I time it right. If not that, I just spin2win, trying to hit the boss with the edge of my hurricane. I think just being able to stay up close and spamming r6 Double Crescent would do more damage, at least, it is a lot easier.

Your my idol now Yanm! LOL
And to some other people who posted about spinning to get crits. All i can say is max your Crit Hit, and Will, and you'll be critting 2/3 of all your smash attacks, even on bosses. Sometimes i think my crit rates are 90% LOL. i've done a chain crit gliding+lightning fury upto 3 times consecutively on Blood Prince. it was epicccc :D
EDIT: I've done that with swords, FYI

Nearly every Lann above level 24 uses Dual Spears.
I know they do more damage, but as far as I'm concerned, their signature move hasn't been released yet?
*That endless spinning thing*
This is why people run spear lann:

On a serious note...it's a fun class. The only problem is that they are extremely difficult to use because their best ability requires HP, and they do not have the refined evasion/blocking skills that other weapons/classes have. However, the rewards for mastering them are great @_@

Spin2win is alright. But imo, it takes away the challenging aspect of skillfully dodging and counterattacking.
But once again, its my opinion. I play for the challenge.

Spear lann takes alot of skill to use properly (i.e. stay alive). Correctly timing your roll dodges is critical to staying alive. Also...feeling the distance with the "spin2win" so you don't get hit is very difficult.
While spear lanns might seem like they're for lazy players from boat 1-3, they start requiring incredible skill in the later boats.

which is why most of them either switch to swords, or die.
