Sorry to make another question thread so soon...
My friend is going to play Mabinogi with me, since I decided I wanna play it and I don't wanna do all the mainstream quests alone.
But he thinks the game is a little confusing and he's not exactly sure what he should be doing.
What should a newbie player (human race) be prioritizing as far as quests and just what to do in general? I know he needs to get Windmill but I dunno what to tell him.
Also what items should I get for a new player who's using human? What weapon(s) should he be using?
I'm an elf and I only ever used ranged so I don't really know... also if there's some useful guide for this sort of thing I would appreciate it...
:what:
tl;dr - what are new players supposed to start off doing? I don't remember.
Also is there anything we could do together even though my total level is high? (compared to his)

Dual wield. Get a pair of Gladiuses. They're very solid blades for beginners.
Also, timing. Teach him the way of N+1.
And Boltcounter.

Windmill, windmill, windmill. Learn windmill first. All the way to rank 1. It is one of the few CP dependant skills and will be very difficult to train late in the game. Not only that, but it is just awesome (currently the best melee skill of not the best skill altogether).

Tell him to rank Windmill. :2thumb:

I'll get him a pair of Gladius and tell him to focus on Windmill. I hope it's easy for him now that he can choice the warrior Destiny.
But where can a fresh player with a pair of Gladius actually level up? He'll probably have it easier than I did as a new elf dying in 1 hit all the time, but I don't know where he should level up and get AP. and should he start doing the G1, etc. quests right away to get Paladin?

He should probably do the majority of the beginner quests first (the ones that say kill this, this, and that) and once he's got the hang of Mabinogi style combat he could spam Ciar beginner to store up some cash (it's pretty good money for beginners, tell him to pick up the formors from it once he starts). I wouldn't recommend generation quests untill he's got the hang of the game and has leveled a bit because some some of parts in G1 and G2 can be a bit hard (Don't know about G3, haven't bothered doing it yet).

He should probably also start ranking refine.
Sure, maybe he is going down the warrior path for now, but he might change his mind after playing the game a bit or he can simply just run out of melee skills to rank. Starting late is a *****.

Well, if he really likes dungeons, I agree with summon golem. Also, if he plans to do generation quests religiously, then he (as should you) should rank animal taming to 9. Just get it out of the way as not to regret not doing so later.
Edit: Unless he's a really dedicated game player who doesn't mind grinding, I really don't recommend ranking windmill past 9-5. This is a great way to get a lot of new players to quit and hate the game IMO...

You only need Rank C Animal Taming for the generation quests now.

Windmill nowadays isnt as much as a priority as it used to be so although its a must have skill, my best piece of advice is to just not spread your ap all around on different skills. Plus golem isnt a bad idea either.

A pair to Gladiuses for starters, and perhaps doing Refine or Windmill first off. Windmill is most likely the skill you'll definitely need for the future, so train that firs.t Refine can wait, but do it before you do Combat Mastery, since CM adds dex to your base, making refine even harder to obtain failures. Unless you want to use Production Failure pots, then you should stick with WM, then Refine, then something like Combat Mastery, or Final Hit so you don't have to do it later with extremely high CP whereas you'll require to use -CP to get larger mobs of enemies in a certain time limit.
If you're going to do Golem, at least do Clay Mastery as well as Alchemy Mastery. You'll need them for the Golem to be strong and buff. Alchy Mastery adds the Stamina you'll need along with Production Mastery to do Windmill spamming when you grind enemies for the requirements. Windmill is quite tedious too, so do it a bit per day, so you don't get fueled out and get discouraged about it. If you got motivation, then good, use it towards Windmill then. Alchy Mastery requires some patience as well, though. But if you decide to train Alchemy Mastery, it's horrible idea to do so, since you'll need to spread your AP all over certain skills to fulfill the requirements for it. I suggest if you want Stamina to boot WM from, do Production Mastery instead. And besides, Refine needs a lot of stamina spending anyways, so it'd be a good idea doing Windmill with production Mastery, whatever you'll have the AP for. Extra AP can be spent on Alchemy Mastery, until you don't want to learn another skill and spam it onto a monster or something.

I hate how when someone asks what they should be doing when new, everyone feeds them bad information about doing WM first. I blame this on the decline of mabi's population.

It is not strictly true that Windmill has to be done first, though I would rank it to Rank 9 minimum, and probably rank 5. Eventually, you should try to get it to Rank 1 though, but you can do this using -CP gear. I would say that if you plan to be melee long term, you should rank it to 1, preferably as quickly as possible, though again, with -CP gear you can afford to wait (though such gear is expensive so hopefully you can find friends/a guild to lend you some or help you pay for it).

Just have fun with the game. Go around places and see how people fight and how people enjoy the game.
Do part-time jobs, play with alby and ciar, and gradually progress to the other dungeons and shadow mission and avon.
It's really fun when you are a newbie since there are plenty of places you can explore and go to.
Word of advice is not to add up any skill just yet. Leave combat mastery alone at Rank F. I do recommend windmill training though, especially for human beginner players and giants. For elves, it is optional.
It is true that there are many ways to attack in Mabinogi, but windmill is both a defensive and offensive skill which makes it valuable. (and also hated by people who cannot tolerate the training methods and also how windmill can screw up party play when not used properly.)
Just tell your friend that some skill training is very dependent on player CP (combat power). Adding skills at the wrong time will boost this number which makes certain skill training more difficult.
N+1 is definitely something everyone should know. Also the basics of bolt+counter, defence after windmill, monster patterns, smash on defending monster.
Melee skill branch is somehow the standard and basic build, and what I consider among the easiest to play. Magic/alchemy/range is a bit more tricky. At some point of time, anyone may consider to go hybrid, but the basics will still always be very important.
