So I am playing as a Staff Evie, and today, after a run with 3 Lanns, I was told that I am the reason why people hate staffies. That was, of course, at the end of the run. When I asked why he was saying that, he had already left the party, so I asked him in whisper form, and he did not reply.
Now I already know to take people's comments with a grain of salt, but maybe there is something that I am doing wrong, and that I should improve on. But without feedback, there's no way I would know what exactly makes me "fail" at being a staffie.
-------
So before reading on, I would like you all to tell me what you expect a staffie that would be in your party to do. If you joined a PUG, and there was a staffie in there, what are your expectations on how she plays, what she does, what she should focus on, etc.
-------
I'm currently lvl 45, using the Blooming Staff. I usually do battles in my underarmor, as I have maxed stoneskin. I do have the full Blood Lord set, however.
As I run around during the battle, I try to throw in Magic Arrows as often as I can. If the enemies are far enough, I'll go with a Magic Fire Bomb first. I rarely use Fire Ball on trash mobs, and when I use it on bosses, I'll usually cast it, Stam Recovery then cast a second one, in quick succession.
I still need to master using Stam Recovery outside of this specific situation, however.
I also save up Blind Arrow charges for the boss, as it would otherwise be mostly wasted on trash mobs, although I have used it occasionally on a mid-boss.
I never use Regeneration. I also try to heal party members when their health gets below 50% usually, although I've been known to fail at that (running out of stam for heals, healing the wrong person, etc.)
If you can think of other things that I haven't mentioned that would cause you grief if I were in your party, then ask and I'll answer with as much detail as I can.
Like I said, I'm only taking their comment with a grain of salt, but I can't help but wonder if I might actually be doing something wrong.
TL;DR: Some guy in a PUG told me I was the reason ppl hate staffies. I wanna know what you guys think to see if I fail or not.
Thanks for any input.

Well, a lot of people expect your to use Fireball on trash since it can clear a wave in 4 seconds. Most people are just haters in Vindickus though, so unless someone specifies why you did "so bad", they're just suffering from mouth diarrhea.

That's a good point, which I'll bring in a counter argument.
If you guys kill everything before I manage to get even a Magic Arrow in, how can you expect me to get a Fire Ball in? It's just not very useful unless you all stand back to actually let me cast.
Plus, in the situation I posted in the OP, I was with 3 Lanns. Spin2Win x3 = Everything's dead in 2 seconds, before I even get in the room.
However, I will consider your point and try to find ways to fire ball trash mobs when I can.

Honestly, I never encounter people who are mad with Staffies. Sure, sometimes people screw up, but overall, there's not really a way to screw up completely as a Staffie as long as you heal when it's direly needed and stuff like that.

I see. Well, thanks for the input. I feel a little better now. :tea:

[s]Stone Skin does not boost your defense when you are not wearing any. It only boosts your defense if it breaks mid-battle.[/s] The int boosts are nice, so please put on your armor.
Regeneration, I agree is pretty useless.
Rude guy was a dumbarse, and I'd honestly ignore him. Healing is a nice gesture, but I never expect it unless it is agreed upon.

I once duo'ed Regrets...Too Late (with Spark and Moonchopper) with a very good staff evie. For me personally, I'd rather you not fireball mobs and instead just use magic arrow. As Fiona and Lann both have a few ways to take out massive trash at once there is not really a need for fireball in that situation.
As for the boss, healing is something I like to see, and if we are full or high on health then switch to magic arrow spam. The Evie I was with basically kept me at full health, spammed arrows AND attacked with melee without getting hit at all. Therefore, I think the best thing you can do is be a multi-tasker.
If you are currently doing all or most of that, then no one should have a problem with you. If they do, it's most likely because they get hit too much for you to keep up with, and that just deserves a simple 'stop being so bad'.

Quote from VindictusDB:
Increases your base DEF by 90 when you are unarmored or when your armor is damaged.
Stone Skin applies both when your armor is damaged AND when you're not wearing any. At least that's what it sounds like based on the skill description.
And thank you.

I agree with you on fireballing trash mobs xD Back when i trained "Infinite and beyond" and "Regeneration Master" i HAD to solo missions to get sp from fb mobs...otherwise lanns and fionnas kill everything before i can fb.
Btw im a Scythe Evie, so everytime i switch to staff im WAY TOO agressive... so i forget to heal xD (sometimes i even forget to equip runes FAIL!) I dont like to be in a party just to heal tho.. but thats personal preference.

I personally don't like when staffies fireball anything, but that's only because it's very laggy for me.
When I have a staffy in a party, I expect them to heal people and use magic arrow. I'm not one to get upset if the person decides not to heal me, since I always have HP pots, but it's nice when we're in a boss battle at least, where the boss is stuck on me.
To me it sounds like that guy was just being a butthead. Don't take it to heart or anything. :P All other people could get mad at spin2win Lanns and say that they're horrible.

As Gotejjeken said, I also think the best staff you can be is being multi-tasker, although in some cases, like if the other player never get hit, then go all out on your damage.
You will know if you're a good staff or bad on how much you waste stamina or CD. Healing a person who drank hp pot is a waste, missing a fireball is a waste, forgetting your stamina Recovery or using it while fireball's cooldown almost finished is also a waste, the list goes on.
Imo:
A pro can bring out the maximum potential of staff, but that is very hard due to the amount of things you have to pay attention to.
A good staff can probably keep track on most of them, heal when needed, fireball asap etc.
A bad staff, is those who only do one task, or wasted a lot CD or stamina.
Edit: oh, forgot to mention, I can't really tell how good you are, since the timing is the key. But most likely the person is just being an arse.

you havn't provided much info in terms of what you did during the battle, even of what battle you were doing, and perhaps if you messed up in any way or found yourself contributing very little. It's hard to give valid advice on such an ambiguous situation.

Fair enough. So some details:
I was doing "Where the legend sleeps" for the first time. As I said, it was me as a staffie with 3 Lanns. One of the 3 was AFK as far as I can tell. The other 2 were going through the areas wiping out everything in less than 10 seconds. I did not get the chance to throw out a single Magic Arrow at anything.
On the way to the 3rd area, the 2 active ones stopped and just stood in the corridor. I paid no heed and moved on by myself to the next area. I threw magic arrows at the mobs, obviously not killing them as fast as the Lanns would, but still managing okay, not getting hit once, etc. Then, near the end of that area (there were 2-3 mobs left), the 2 Lanns arrived, killed them in 2 seconds and then moved on.
When we got to the boss, we all started bashing on it. Them with their spin2win, me with magic arrows. I threw the one blind arrow I had managed to save up for at it, and when he fell on his knees, I ran in, fireballed, stam recover, fireball. then I stepped back a bit, healed them a few times and resumed throwing magic arrows at the boss until it died.
Once it died, I went and threw a mine bomb at the ore stack that was in a corner, although it didn't give any ores to me. I also killed the few Wisps that surrounded a Pot on the same side of the area.
Then he tells me I was the reason why people hate Staff Evies and quits the party.
Of course, this is from my point of view. Maybe there's something I missed that aggravated him, or maybe I was completely oblivious to something. But from this, I can't tell what exactly pissed him off. Was it because I took more than 10 seconds to clear an area by myself? That would be a bit unfair to expect it from a single staffie...

Honestly, I don't have a clue what his deal was. I usually ignore Lanns when they say things like that. The way you went through the mission sounds perfectly fine to me.

This guy probably just expects you to heal him constantly and considers you to be a walking HP potion. It seems you have been successful with your build and strategy, so I don't think there is an actual issue.
