What Anime/Manga have you been watching/reading?
Please, list some most recent.
I really would like to know.

If I'll have to be that particular, not many recently. I am aware of many that have a school setting though.
Of the *recent* ones the only one in a school setting was Kodomo no Jikan to be frank.
So yeah, I actually don't know how well those mangakas exploit the possibilities or if it's just a Japanese aequivalent to the Euro-American vampire romance wave. I forgot about that part...:gloom2:

Seriously? Some of the anime I've watched have the main character dying at or near the end, or, seriously injured at some points. It was already said in this topic, but, what your complaining about is only very bad in shonen series...
For example... Spoilers by the way.
-The End of Evangelion might as well have been re-named the end of everything that moves. In the anime, everyone is messed up psychologically as well.
-Cowboy Bebop had the main character go out with a "bang". Spike survived some crazy stuff though.
-Zeta Gundam had almost the entire main cast killed off by the end, and the main character was a vegetable well into the successor series.
What he said,
Spoilers. But probably no one cares since these are mostly mecha
-The second Space Runaway Ideon movie ends with the universe pretty much ending and being rebooted back to a primitive state.
-Then there's Zambot 3, most messed up show ever to be labeled as a children's series. Aliens using children as suicide-bombers, major characters dying at the end. Surprisingly the main character survives.
-V Gundam had pretty much ALL of the major characters killed in horrible ways, I mean. The only reason the main character survived was because most of their deaths were to let him survive.
-Gundam: Char's Counter Attack ended with the two main characters/rivals for almost 4 series dying.
So, yeah. It's mostly just shounen anime that has those kinds of cliches.

All of you go read 7 Seeds. It is an Amazing Manga that Covers everything the OP asked, and the art is too amazing to miss out on.
Sad part is, none of you will have heard of it because it is grossly unheard of in the Western World. However, it has won awards in Japan and it is one of the best selling Manga in Japan.

I'm starting to think it's a mecha cliche that characters everywhere end up dying... Guess it's just the nature of the genre. Also, good to see someone else here cares for stuff like Ideon.

Bakemonogatari.
I wonder if anyone even knows what I'm talking about. It's so nice and abnormal, even when it's normal.

Eh, I never finished that. I dunno. Call me shallow, but I only decided to watch it after seeing the 4th OP. Which I love and made Kana Hanazawa one of my favorite VAs. :|
But, that show was pretty mainstream. I never like shows that are extremely popular, like Code Geass, Death Note, Gurren Lagann, etc. They make me sigh when ever someone talks to me about them like: "OMG DID U SEE GURREN LAGANN?!?!?# TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN IS THE STRONGEST ROBOT EVAR!313121!!!!" And, I'm like. "ffs, yes. I did see it". So it makes me feel bad to be associated with fanboys like that.

TTGL was one of the best animes i've ever watched though, I literally couldn't wait until the next installment released back then when it was a new series. I think you're letting your hate for mainstream hold you back from some good quality shows!
retard fans are everywhere, it's only popularity that makes them more ubiquitous.

Mainstream anime is usually mainstream for a reason. 90% of the time, the shows are amazing, but like you said, have stupid fans. That's not a good reason to say you wont watch it though xD
Death Note was an amazing series, if you like that genre. So was Gurren Lagan (Gainax is the chiz, really). Code Geass is just as great as the rest. The great thing about anime is that there's a show for everyone. There are too many great series out there for you to shoot them down because they're "too popular". Take Naruto and Bleach for example. I know too many people that gave up on watching them because they "got too popular", and it irks me.
You should watch things for yourself and form your own opinion before skipping over something you might really enjoy. In other words, "dont knock it 'till you try it"

I feel the same way about the Deathnote anime that I do about the Prince of Tennis anime.
They tried to make a more normal actions way too dramatic and the result is unintentional comedy. It was almost like they were trying to parody themselves. Preferred the manga for both.
Maria Holic and Bakemonogatari and a few different things going for them (talking about the animes here), but the difference is I enjoyed Bakemonogatari. It had it's pervy moments but the story was more engaging. Maria Holic was popular (I think) but I think it sucks. x~x Such a disappointment.

Anything super-serious will always have its ridiculous moments xD
Prince of Tennis creeped me out with the whole "Everyone in the world is obsessed with tennis! No other sport exists D8<" aspect of the story lmao;;. But it was okay.
I tend to watch more underrated series, or stuff that no ones really knows about when it comes out but eventually gets popular cuz someone cool says it is. The one anime that blew me away when i watched it (and i still re-watch all the time) was Ookiku Furikabutte. That series took something i hate and made it really exciting for me, so i love it xDD;;

stuff like death note and prince of tennis, I thoroughly enjoyed reading as a manga but didn't bother watching as a series.
most of the time series are best enjoyed in their original content, for example one piece is best as a manga, but TTGL's manga was contrived after the anime was aired and is not nearly as good. Hellsing is another series where the manga outshines the OVAs.
as for bleach and naruto, i felt they started losing a lot of the content I was reading for and started gearing towards making as much bang for the buck as possible, which is my biggest pet peeve. I'm not watching over 500 episodes for the handful that are only worth watching.
the beginnings were amazing, though.
same thing happened to Katekyo Hitman Reborn. I absolutely loved that manga series until it started to become some sort of POWER LEVEL1!!1one contest..
it makes me a sad panda. ;_;

There are few series where i like the manga better than the anime, but i watch a lot of action-y stuff so that's probably why.
Gainax almost always does "anime first" shows like TTGL, FLCL, etc where the manga comes out (with less effort) after.
I honestly dont know what's going on in Bleach/Naruto, i haven't watched/read them in so long OTL;; and i watch Reborn, so i dont know how the manga is going, but im looking forward to the new season coming out this summer :D
Im not gonna lie, i miss the earlier days of Naruto. Im not just talking about way back in seasons 1-6 either. The early Shippuuden episodes were awesome too, but after a while it just lost some of its awesome. Naruto is to this day my favorite series, so it sucks QnQ
