What's the point of them? I thought the company is trying to sell their product to me, or get me to buy from their stores, not turn me away and going to their competition, even if the company with the obnoxious commercial sells it for cheaper.
Most recent commercials I can think of:

Seriously, people get paid to make these? If I actually wanted to, I could make some REHEHEHEHEELY obnoxious commercials advertising stores, but I'm too lazy and too far away from ad people to actually get the job.

It's business. Thanks to that commercial, you now (or had previous knowledge of) know the existence of Staples. A lot of businesses and companies would be unknown to the public, relying only on their loyal customers if it were not for commercials. They don't really care if they're annoying, as long as they don't do something stupid and get their asses sued.

It's not like I never knew about Staples before. I mean, you only got like two choices to get your office supplies around here, and that's Staples and Walmart. And even it's not just here. When I was out in Tacoma, I saw more Staples than the other office supply chains (Office Max/Office Depot), so it's not like they really need that kind of publicity to get people to come in. >.>

Staples has had a pretty bad marketing campaign for a while (remember 'that was easy!'?)
Recently, I've been bugged by Taco Bell's Quad Steak Burrito commercial, which features a pianist getting super emotional about 'four times the steak' in a high class restaurant, but I can't find it online to link here...

You can't beat Old Spice. Best commercials ever.
I spent ages just watching all of them.
