I been trying to find out which type i like but im not sure yet. I asked around and people told me its your play style. When im playing the game i hit and run mostly at boss's and throw spears at them to bring them down. I like to believe im a agressive player because i always choose a warrior type of class. So is this enough information for someone to tell me which road i should take to have the most fun in this game. :what:
Also can some of you give me your reviews with using a spear or sword type of class.

Personally, I used spears since I like to just dish out damage nonstop. Since you classify yourself as a hit and run type of person though, I'd suggest you use a Sword Lann since you can use a double crescent for a bit of damage and not get hit at all. You might like spear if you just spam 1 hit smashes nonstop since you can dish out insane damage in just a few seconds, and then wait for another opening to do the same.

Spears: High dmg, low survivability
Swords: Decent dmg, higher survivability
But then again, both of them can be countered with player skill.
I've seen some spear lanns, who just die alot, and some who dont die alot. Same could be said about sword lanns.
Once again, its how you play your character that counts the most, go with what your most comfortable with.

Spear - Find openings, dish out super-fast heavy damage
Sword - CREATE openings, dish out decent damage
A failed Spear Lann is worse than a good Sword Lann.

I would highly recommend swords over spears. The loss in survivability that comes with spears is not worth it and takes away from part of the job of a Lann: being fast and dodgey. Fionas have shields, Evie's have long ranged magic, and Lanns have dodges and speed... but not if your using spears.

Why does everyone think they're limited to one choice?

At lower levels, going hybrid is not as desirable as focusing on one. Later on in the game, you can max all the skills required for both classes...

Versatility will be good for lower levels anyway.
i.e. Swords > spears significantly at blood prince
Spears > swords significantly at red sentinel

my sword lann did fine on both of those missions. Nothing against going hybrid, but sword skills dont max out until 15k AP. IMO, spreading your ap all over the place for lower levels isn't the smartest thing to do >.>

Unless you're going to stick solely to Swords (very unlikely), it's better to start building your character toward spears. As Swords' real advantage is slip dash, which is quite useless until rA or above. I've gone through the lower level through sticking solely to swords, and after trying out spears I realized what I have missed.
But to the end, it's all up to your play-style, there's nothing wrong splitting your ap across, you can actually enjoy both aspect of the class. Not to the best, but it's still decent enough.

spears for more experiecend players
IF will eat yur hp up leaving yu with one hp so know when ot attk
sword lanns does less dmg but yu survive more with the invinc frame of slip dash and dble crescent

Skills unique to Sword Lann: Twin Sword Mastery, Slip Dash, and Double Crescent
Spear Lann: Twin Spear Mastery, Fury Infusion
It's not that hard to go hybrid; I started pumping my spear-related skills around mid 40s to r9 (Fury) and rA (spear mastery) after getting my sword skills to r6 (not sword mastery of course).
Aside from those 2 - 3 skills, they're all pretty much pumping the same set of skills anyway. I would definitely go spears over swords to start, as dungeons get cleared faster and you don't have to spin2win all the time if you decide to be careful.
Maybe if you're the type of soloer, you're going to want to vouch for swords more as they have more invincibility frames, but both have their own soloing capabilities.
