I know its a lower level boss, but this is one of the first "real" raid bosses in the game, and it is a very significant source of EXP for players level 36-41. Knowing how to solo this boss will determine how long your grind from 38-41 is. At 55k exp per run and only one map, its nothing to laugh at.
Boss Information:
This boss has many of the similar attacks as white tyrant, but they are executed in a faster and more vicious manner. Alot of the things you used to do on white tyrant runs can no longer be applied, such as the spear lock strategy. This boss doesn't go down in 3 spears, and once it does go down, only for a fraction of the time white tyrant stuns for. Palalas are acceptable for this boss, but I don't like to rely too heavily on my secondary weapons, it's best to learn to dodge his attacks and know how to counter them. Hopefully this guide can help some of the lower scythe evies who doesn't already know his attack and how to counter them, to do so. His attacks can be split into 5 major categories, the belly flop, the charge, the side swipes, the roar smash, and the random fast execution attacks (such as back jump, side smash, and jump smash).
Attack Information:
Before I get into details, there is one thing I need to make clear. During this raid, you must always circle to his left. This will be explained in the following more detailed explanation of his attacks.
-The Belly Flop:
[Image: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k76/Wuhan5/Vindictus%20Guide%20pictures/2010_12_23_0003.jpg]
the setup for this attack is very obvious, you have to look at his right arm (your left). Right before he executes this attack, he will first smash his right arm on the ground, then followed by an upward swipe, then the belly flop. You must blink diagonally into his right arm before he finish executing the upward swipe (or you will get smacked). Looking at the picture above, you are basically trying to dodge into the space between his right arm and right leg, but unlike that lann in the picture, you must blink into it BEFORE the upward swipe is executed. Blinking too early will result in a hit by his upward swipe, same as when you blink too late. The reason I say blink diagonally is because you don't want to end up directly behind the bear, that's usually when he does a side smash or a back jump. Never blink sideways because he can change the direction of the belly-flop and still hit you. To counterattack after you dodge, merely do a LLR (hell quake) after the blink animation stops, be careful to be far enough away from him so that just the tip of the smash hits, this way if he follows up with a jump smash or side smash you can easily be out of range. Some times, depending on your timing, you may be able to get a LLLR in there and get away with it, but I'm going to preach the safe way and go do a LLR. Also, remember to press space once (don't blink, jump backwards) after the smash to cancel it and walk out of range.
-The Charge:
[Image: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k76/Wuhan5/Vindictus%20Guide%20pictures/WhiteTyrantattack1.jpg]
This attack is one of the easiest to avoid and to detect. He will set up this attack exactly as in the photo above. (used white tyrant because its exactly the same) He will spread out his appendages then charge at you in a linear fashion. I assume your taking my advice and is constantly moving to your left, if you are, then this attack should be easy as pie for you to avoid, just keep moving to the left when he does the setup, no blink involved, may need to sprint for a short while though. To counterattack this is fairly easy, a common mistake made by beginners is: they wait until the charge animation finish executing before they set up their smash. You must do as follows, walk or run to the left when you see the setup, but as soon as he executes the charge set up your LLR to the left. You still move when you attack, so you will be well out of range when his charge finishes and will be ready to execute the smash. Same as above, you should press space once after the smash to cancel early and walk or run out of range.
-The Side Swipes:
[Image: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k76/Wuhan5/Vindictus%20Guide%20pictures/WhiteTyrantattack2.jpg]
The setup for this skill is as the picture dictates, he will rise off the ground and lean to your left. Again, if you are taking my advice and is running to the left, this will be easy enough to avoid, just run up into the blind spot of his smash. Refer to diagram below:
See why I recommend moving to the left now? If you move to the right, you will end up on the outside of the two smashes, far away from the bear (this makes it harder and more dangerous to do a followup smash) The solid black lines represents the trajectory of his smash, and the dotted black lines is the path you need to take to ensure safety. This attack is your best friend, why? because this is the time you can either LLLR+E or LLLLR+E this boss with a certain degree of safety. As soon as you get close to the blind spot, you may set up your smashes (be careful with your distances, the boss will continue to move away from you, so stay close enough that your 3rd or 4th smash hits). As you get more experienced, you will be able to spot the safe zones without fail from alot of different angles, but if your just starting to get a feel for this boss, go with the one in the diagram. If you decide to use a LLLR+E or LLLLR+E, make sure you have magic shield active, because this boss has a chance to do the jump smash after the side swipes (which you cant dodge if your doing the 3rd or 4th smash +E for MoD or BT), most of the times, however, he follows-up with a belly flop, which you can avoid with good timing. Remember, this is a gamble, so be careful. Also, if you run to the safe zone during this smash, you will have enough time to chug down a potion before he comes back to get you.
-Roar Smash:

Pretty much self explanatory, same setup as white tyrant, except this time the roar generates a shock-wave that can hurt you, stay away. If you want, you can utilize this time to set up a MoD or BT, but be very careful with the distances. You may also use this time to drink some pots.
-Random Fast Execution Attacks:
These attacks have almost no setup animation, by the time you see it coming, it already came. So the best way to avoid these are to keep your distance.
+The Jump Smash
- He jumps up and down, in the process damages you. He does this whenever you are close enough, most notable times are after your LLLR combos, he tends to do this to screw with you. He also does this at random times when you are within range.
+Side Smash
- Not to be confused with his side swipes, this is the attack where he randomly smashes to his right or left. Again, this activates randomly when you are too close to his sides. He may either use this or the jump smash or do nothing when you are within hitting range.
+Back Jump
- As the name suggests, he jumps backwards and damages you in the process. He does this when you are in front of him sometimes, but usually when you are behind him. To avoid this, always dodge and attack from his sides, if you end up behind the boss due to a blinking error just don't attack and save your stamina + possible health loss.
-Words of Caution (TL;DR version)
1. Always run and dodge to your LEFT
2. Don't use LLLR or LLLR unless after a side swipe or roar smash, other times just use LLR
3. Don't use wisps, they will aggro the boss, you actually end up doing less damage because you are counterattacking the boss
4. Watch your stamina bar, usually if he just charges at you, you can counterattack 3-4 of them without danger, but his belly flop requires blinking followed by a smash. This drains alot of your stamina and you can usually only do it 1-2 times in a row before running out of stamina. No stamina = no blinking = getting owned by his belly flops
5. STAY AWAY FROM WALLS
Now if you guys did it all correctly, it should look something like this:

I got hit 3 times and missed alot of smashes (danmed laggy video recorder), but one of them was due to the lag, and the other two were results of me setting up for BT and MoD after the side swipes, his jump smashes got me. (the last two hits are acceptable hits, the damage I inflicted on him is worth it) Pay special attention to the distance I keep between myself and the bear, that distance is usually enough to react to most of his surprise smashes. Also, notice how I run away when the bear is near the wall, being near the wall = possible wall rape. Of-course if your level 36, you wont be able to do that much damage with hell quake, and you won't have Bloody Thread, but you will just have to suck it up and survive longer against him =S.
Hope this helps at least one person, I get way too many people asking me to show them how to solo Red Tyrant these days :XD:
