Okay, so, I have this laptop that's actually pretty good seeing as it's offbrand. I'll put specs later.
Anyway, I had TS3 on it before. On the lowest settings it would lag HORRIBLY and not even be able to play unless I could stand constant lag.
Thing is, my mom's newer computer, which is a Single core processor, can play it perfectly on lowest settings.
Here's the laptop specs, can't post desktop specs sadly....

So, what's your take on the problem?
Do I need to upgrade my cards?
Or is it just my computer can't handle it?
BTW, it can handle MANY other games, MMOs to be exact, which is strange.

You need more RAM I think. About 2-3GB should do it. Also if it's graphics which cause most of the lag, an upgraded video card could do wonders as well. But I mainly think it's your RAM

Can you link me to an upgrade site?
I'm too lazy.
Also, it can't be RAM.
If I was able to even load the game, it can't be that....D:
And, I can't add more RAM since it's a laptop....Unless a USB drive would work?

It's your ram.
Min req is 1.5.

Quote from Wikipedia Or my Sims 3 Manual:
Requirements
Windows[21]
Operating System Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows 7
CPU Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent
2.0GHz (XP)
2.4GHz (Vista or 7) [If built-in graphics chipsets then 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent.]
Memory 1 GB (XP)
1.5GB (Vista or 7) [If built-in graphics then add 0.5 GB additional RAM]
Hard Drive Space 6.1GB or more for extra content
Graphics Hardware DirectX 9.0c compatible card with 128 MB RAM (NVIDIA FX 5900/ATI 9500 or better) and support for Pixel Shader 2.0
Sound Hardware 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible card
You don't have enough ram, you need at least 1.5 for TS3 on Vista.
It looks like your processor barely meets the requirements, so it maybe that too.
I'm not quite sure, but I don't think your graphics card makes it either. Someone needs to correct me on this. I think your card is integrated so I think you need at least 2 gigs of ram now. Plus it just doesn't have the power to run it.
If all this is wrong with your laptop and you're wanting to upgrade its going to be a lot. Just build your own desktop that is better for the same amount.

I'm gonna say it's your RAM, because while I'm playing it I observe how much of it's bein' taken up by TS3 since I always have task manager open.
Then again, It gets up to like 3.20 out of my 4GB because I have every option on high.
But if it lags hard when you're playing with low quality, then it probably really is your RAM :c
But eh, my knowledge only goes so far with stuff like this, so don't trust this too much.

It's your ram. You can buy laptop ram at your local compute store, but I suggest you first find out the type and brand of ram that you need. You can do this by either asking someone who works in a computer store or by using certain online resources that can identify the ram that your computer needs.

Okay everyone, so it seems I'll just have to wait until I can scrounge together $1500 to afford the pieces of a computer I want.
Thanks for your input.

Are you planning to put together a desktop or buy another laptop to handle TS3? A desktop would be cheaper for more RAM, graphics and processing power, but of course the downside is that it consumes a lot of power (be environmentally friendly!), and you can't take it anywhere.
I currently run the game on a Dell Inspiron 1420 with a mid range graphics card and 2GB RAM, and it is able to handle TS3 on moderate settings quite reasonably, even though the laptop can heat up considerably. I'm not sure how much a laptop with mid grade specs sells for nowadays, but I would estimate 1.1 to 1.5k? Less power consumption and a little more portability compared to attempting to shove a CPU into your backpack. >_<
PS TS3 is awesome.

RAM, as everyone else said.
I have the Sims on this computer, but it isn't that fast.
Instead, we use the Sims on an Internet-Disabled Computer with just Microsoft Word and saved Files. It's really fast/works there.

I was planning on getting me a desktop and buying better graphics, video, and RAM sticks.
That way I have a ****e ton of RAM.

Okami wrote on 2010-05-16 14:52
That would probably be best.
I'm supposed to have 4 gigs of RAM, but ATM I'm running with 8 gigs..
Sims runs awesome.

Yeah I'm sure you can seamlessly run around and probably never lag much.
