So yesterday my laptop got unbearably hot as I took notes, I figured that since it was about six months since my last dusting that I was over due for another. So I dusted, and dusted, and dusted all day today and figured that my laptop was still hitting pretty hot idle temperatures, around 62C, where it used to average at the 30s. Then I realized, as I turn off the cooler, it sounds like that the internal fan wasn't kicking in at all. So I want to request any fan rpm monitor that you guys know. I have a few but the fan speed doesn't pop up, asking around some tech support forums, they tell that my laptop doesn't support the said monitor that well. Still, my laptop is like my baby >:

If your laptop lacks a tachometer, which I'm assuming that it does from your post, it is impossible to monitor its RPM. Basically, it's useless to try and moniter it. However, it sounds to me like something's caught in your fan (this happened to me once :X) or maybe its motor burnt out, but we can't be sure without more information. How long have you had your laptop, and where do you usually put it while you are taking notes? If you have it on your lap or somewhere on your bed, it wouldn't be surprising if dust and hairs accumulated, along with the heat you mentioned. In any case, since it's been 6 months, I suggest handing it over to a repair shop to get its heat sink cleaned out and its fan to be inspected. You usually do this if you're lazy and let your comp run without being cleaned for a year, but your fan stopped and all...

Thinking about it, there might be something caught in there. Cleaning it out, the blades had a little resistance while rotating and blowing the air into it, which is usually dangerous since it rotates the blades at breakneck speed, actually did nothing. I'll pop it open tomorrow and give it a look... errr later today. Stupid midnight, confusing me.

Just be careful with it. The fans are surprisingly delicate :X

Does your laptop have a name? (Since it's like your baby)

I wanted to know, how does one go and pop open their lappy?
My fan is beginning to make noises and I was wondering how?

It depends on your model, since each casing is a bit different. But before you do anything, you make a deal with God/Devil so that you won't accidentally destroy your laptop by accidentally removing something you shouldn't have touched. It's either that or have an expert look at it.

Just unscrew it at where the fan is. But yeah, follow what Rime says. Sometimes opening up your laptop voids warranty.

It's Compaq Presario F700.....
Compaq is ACTUALLY a good Windows distributor.
Better than Dell at least.
