Okay, so I closed my laptop last night and then opened it this morning and found it won't connect to Internet Exporer or Google Chrome (not even the browser on my winamp). In addition MSN messenger won't connect, but I know I got internet connection cause AIM, Yahoo, and Skype will connect. When I right click on the internet icon to click diagnose and repair, it won't let me click it or any of the options listed; not even highlight them. I've run an McAfree or w/e it's called but it says nothings wrong. I can't install AVG because it keeps getting an error, my Norton Power Earaser won't run because it can't connect, and Malwarebytes doesn't detect anything. I can connect to the browsers in safe mode, but not msn still.
IT IS NOT THE LAN SETTINGS. Before anyone says that, I've done the internet option to check proxy settings being checked. I uninstalled McAfree to see if it was the problem, but nothing changed. Any suggestions? x.x
I was thinking of doing a system restore, but would that help anything? :gloom2:

Ok, just to prevent stupidity on anyone's part, here and further on, I shall ask:
Did you try to restart the computer?

Yea, it stays the same e.e I'm running in safe mode with network connections atm.

Thats a really odd problem. Uh... have you tried restarting your modem/router?
Restoring your computer a couple days earlier might help though.

Something very similar happened to me two or three times while I was at school. A restart fixed it maybe two of the times, but the other one I just had to sit and wait it out...usually it seemed to fix itself after a few hours.
I know that's really not helpful, but I figured I'd say what little I could about what may or may not be the same thing. ^^;

This happened to me on my laptop. My MTU was too low.
Have you changed your MTU?

Might be DNS.
Ping google.com and see what happens then ping 74.125.226.48 if it didn't work.
If pinging the IP works do: ipconfig /flushdns
If it still doesn't work after that, your ISPs DNS servers suck, so switch to google or opendns.

Are you sure you're connected to the right network? I know sometimes when I close my laptop and open it again, it connects onto another network (ones that don't require passwords) and they are so sucky I can't connect to anything else other than my messengers.
1. If that is not the case, restart your router.
2. If that fails too, try resetting to a new IP by accessing your router settings.
3. Another option is if your laptop shows you are connected, but you can't access anything online, disconnect from the network and reconnect (under the Windows internet options).

I fixed it, thanks guys for all the advice. Friend looked it over and found a virus that my anti-virus kept overlooking. :c
