Armor Set prices over time

  I was having this discussion with a guildie about the price of Armor Sets over time. I said that when new sets come out, the price of the old ones tends to plummet because no one wants them anymore (which has been my experience reading these forums and the Marketplace)
  
  But he said that the price of old sets actually goes UP after a brief initial fall, because no one can find the sets anymore and people want them for titles.
  
  What are your experiences with buying sets? (or crafting them) I'll admit that I don't exactly watch the Marketplace like a hawk to see the rise and fall over time (too much like work!) so I decided to ask around here to see who's right (if either of us are)
  
  What do you all think? Or it something else entirely?

  I don't follow the market prices much, either, but I do believe Vindictusdb can be quite useful.
  Here's an example with the Laghodessa Slayer Tunic. If you go on Vindictusdb, look up "Laghodessa Slayer Tunic," and click on the "Prices" tab, you'll get a graph that looks like this:

  You can change the Enhance Level and the Quality at the top left, and it'll graph the history of prices for both East and West servers.
  According to this graph, prices went up right after the patch, and I believe they will drop to an all time low soon. In other words, if anyone doesn't have their Laghodessa set yet, wait a couple of weeks.
