I havent tried a lot of solo runs, but i manage to pull off Contact boss.
What i do is (as a scythe evie) always cast a wisp and leave the room (regular mobs wise). While all the mobs aggro the wisp i cast Bloody Thread starting with Bombers, then Spearman and so on.
On boss i lure the Prompush with my golem to the little "room" at the right of the main entrance. Once there all of the boss strengths are nullifed, he cant cover long distances and since my Golem is blocking him i can spam (with a lot of caution) BT and else.
I've been farming Contact following your advice (need 24 Gray Uniforms anyway). Very good idea about the wisp.
When playing as solo evie, boat 6 trash becomes almost more dangerous than the bosses, considering how many different angles you can be attacked from (off your screen!), and the MASSIVE amount of ranged attacks really screws things up.
Spamming wisps on all the big rooms w/ 2 spawn sets helps a LOT. You want to draw as many cannons and spears off yourself as possible or else you run a very high risk of getting staggered and killed from full shields/hp to dead in 1 combo. :T_T:

However, on Prompush I tried the little room strategy and hated it. It was a pain getting him to actually go into the room, my Golem took a lot of hits gathering mats outside the room, didn't want to follow me in there anyway, and I had very low visibility on the boss. This led to him comboing me while I was trying to position.
After that I just fought out in the open. The most dangerous part is the beginning because not only is your golem not up, but you also have a bunch of spread out trash mobs to dodge and kill. Be very careful while you gather Golem mats and kill trash.
Once the golem starts hitting him he's pretty easy. Almost easier than Hidden w/ a Golem.
Sprint sideways to dodge his 1 or 3 cannonball attack, if he's on you. You can jump or blink it too, but the "recovery" delay on both of those cuts it close and makes dodging the 2nd and 3rd hits more stressful than if you just hold shift and run in a circle around him.
Watch where small bombs roll when he throws them and then weave your way in between them while winding up a smash.
Don't stand on top of him so when he does his ground shot + flying cannon you don't get hit (the ground hit is one of his strongest attacks btw). Either jump or blink to guarantee that you'll dodge the cannonball he shoots from the air.
His last attack, the 2 hit combo melee swing, is the best for getting damage in. He has the longest recovery time after this attack. Watch your positioning though, as both swings are somewhat 360, especially the 2nd one. Time your melee range+smash to come in AFTER the 2nd hit.
He dies in about 10 BTs. Maybe 20 smashes total, assuming you LLR as much as possible when he decides to aggro you.
Anyway, it's trivial once an hour with transform, and that should be 1 out of 4 or 5 runs anyway.
I've done it without a Golem, it's easily doable, but much slower.
Definitely do hard mode, you shouldn't die on either mode, so no reason not to do hard. I was soloing with the No Feathers oath, it's ~82k exp per run, varying slightly on if you get the Cannon Instructor Assistant or not.
