Harvest Moon: Back To Nature for PS1 has more things to do than the N64 game
Instead of getting a face portrait when talking to people, you see a full body shot like you would see in Mabinogi
It is much more difficult than the N64 version though
it's way more grindish because all the tools are crappier
You have to spend time mining and getting the ores used to upgrade your tools
and it costs a lot of money toos
Since the tools are crappier
it's harder to get a wife than the N64
You don't get a second bed until you upgrade your house to the 5th level
BUT NO, your axe is crap.
shops are more expensive
and metals from the mines are worth less
the cat suggests cheating
However, the characters are better in BTN with their personalities

I prefer the early games..The newer games seem really troublesome, with all those time ticking away even in houses.

Oh.
Well its not like HM on the Playstation is THAT hard.
Just more grindish.
The ore cave makes it easy to make money once you max out your Hoe upgrades, which should be your first priority. There are two advantages to this.
1. Time does not pass inside the cave.
2. Basket allows you to net lots of ores at once.
You can do some basic work like watering plants taking care of livestock early, and then go dip in the hotsprings later, go to the cave, dig for ores.
You can stay out pretty late early game since you don't have a waifu yet.
