  Or could it simply be how every mob by default turns to stone shortly after being defeated? That's been there since the very beginning. Of course, this too is not specific to Evie, nor does a skill cause it.

  No, before Mercury trap, Evie use to have another skill that disable monsters. This was when I saw mercury trap and i go omg that looks so awesome.
