and yes, im sure his crying will be superbly animated, lolol
I don't think there was ever a moment where Kaiji cried where I didn't think he deserved to.
He more or less train wrecks his entire life.
Overall, his biggest problem is that he can't get out of the gambler's mentality. The way he's always thinking "if I have another shot at anything I could get out of this debt".
But if you think about it, theres really no helping that train of thought. He's so heavily in debt that even if he finds a job, he'll be in a terrible life for the rest of his life. His "15 year" contract with the Teiai underground mining industry is actually incredibly good pay overall for someone of his status. Its either "not gamble and die, gamble and die, or gamble and win".

Thought process:
>Only heard of this anime once
>Kitae says it's good so it must be good
>Put anime on watch list
Its an incredibly overexaggerated dramatic anime in which a very unfortunate man is hurled into underground gaming due to having cosigned a loan he can't pay for.
Every step he makes is another step into even further debt, with him constantly running out of options he has to start betting his life.
What makes this series awesome is that the "gambling" isn't exactly just straight forward luck. There is a trick to it all, and Kaiji always works it through. The anime is based on the corrupted and realistic mentality of a human being put under heavy stress. He'll make very poor decisions sometimes, but the situation he's in you can't really blame him for having screwed up.
