A lot of the discussions in the Mabinogi threads aren't too bad, at least for some people. The art of arguing and debating will always have it's fire as it builds up and gets hotter. It is natural and completely normal. To outsiders it seems like flames but it isn't, it's a rather blue fire. Some people are rather quick to think it is a flame war if a select group of people span 6~7 pages of arguing. It just proves that both side may or may not have valid points to withhold and the experience (I hope) to back it up.
But the moment when someone starts insulting a person personally instead of sticking to the argument and the main points is when it gets over the line. If this was the debate class, said person would be disqualified for personal insult instead of sticking to the argument.
One could say to me that "this is a fan forums, not a debate forum", but debates will happen, since this game is very well built and those that debate are those that love the game. So a careful eye is needed to judge if the pages of debate is actually debate or not flaming.
Some people are just too quick to judge what spans 2+ pages of argument as a flame war, but as one who has been in many debate classes, it's really just standard until personal insults occur.
Of course, some "debates" degrade into insults, in that case, it is safe to assume the debate is now over, all points have been said, and for the thread to be locked.

I have to agree here.
I never had to use the Report button until starting 2 months ago. There's getting to be more and more leaked ill-behavior in generally frequented sections, and there are some times when such reported issues aren't addressed to.
The beloved and charming atmosphere is already dwindling for lots of us.

I approve, but let's hope something somebody says to be playful doesn't get misinterpreted.

Let's hope people look over their "playful" comments before posting.

One thing that really should be avoided are quote wars. You've seen them before.
I have a dog.
So what?
My dog is brown.
Prove it.
My dog can beat up your dog because it is brown.
No way. My dog is definitely better than your dog because it's a larger breed.
Those always seem to get personal.

As soon as the person says "my dog is better than yours"... that is time to either end the convo or lock the thread. xD
In debate class for me, that would instantly disqualify the person who said that. xx

Aren't blue fires the hottest though?

I know better than to insult a random person on Nation. I thought the people on Nation were friendlier than those on Guru and Nexon.
Then again, I do see a lot more threads being boarded up because of trolls and arguments starting over something stupid.

inevitable. It's good to know you're getting a little stricter, and it's good to also raise awareness of the magical little report button in general.
