Dammit, Tokyopop does all publishing for any manga related to .Hack//... Glad I have most of them though, haha. I do agree that their paper is crap. Pages actually fell out of my friend's copy of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. And he's just as finicky as me when it comes to keeping things in good condition.
Oh well, I don't buy much from these guys anyway. As long as Viz doesn't go out of business, it's all good.

.hack//'s manga was their weakest point.
Too many non-canon work.
The only that did count was Legend Of The Twilight and let's face it their best work was everything before that :x
Plus Viz makes all the manga I read when I do read manga.

Indeed. You can appreciate the art more when you can see details that scanners dont always pick up -u-
That'd be some seriously horrible scanner I say. D:
But there's something about the specific material's texture that can't really be transported onto the screen.

Tokyopop dropped the only series I bought from them. It had a few spelling and grammar mistakes that annoyed me.

I certainly agree with you, but, doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them, as rushed as they felt, and non-canon can still be cool for a read. Also, Legend of the Twilight was actually the first manga I ever read or bought, so, there's nostalgia invested there... Beats the hell out of the anime. Now THAT was terrible.
But yeah, excuse the off-topic. Tokyopop did a really good job on Mahoromatic in my opinion, but they put the "explicit content" sticker on the front of the book for a few volumes... That always pissed me off, seeing as they had the same thing on the back of the book. I guess there's not much to be missed from me. I wonder if other publishers will pick up some of the series they're leaving behind.

I stopped buying manga. If we ever get a netflix type of thing but for manga and with quality releases same-week as Japan, I'd go for it. However I don't give a damn about "supporting" them if their distribution medium is outdated, inconvenient and even when they do go digital it's not all in one spot for one flat fee.
Same goes for any form of entertainment, centralize it, digitize it and give it a flat fee and I'll be happy to pay. Until then, they can go screw themselves.

That sends you the manga in the mail. Not sure if it's one monthly fee for as much as you want either, or if it's every time you "rent" manga.
At least it's going in the right direction, it's very similar to what netflix was when it started up, but it's not a one monthly fee digital streaming of manga yet so far as I can see.
Also not sure if it has same-week releases as japan.
Never in my life will I pay for manga when fan-made translations are released same-week.
The non-japanese manga industry needs to adapt or suffer the same fate as tokyopop.

It clearly says 2 out plan, doesn't it? You have two out, return, get more. Not sure how to explain it any easier....xD

Still want digital :<
Let me know when this thing becomes like the netflix we have right now. I'll consider it then, if the releases are very close to the japan releases. Until then, piracy is the way to go.

I don't think any big website can do that with current copyright laws.
Unless you have to pay to view the content.

Crunchyroll does it with anime (but their subs suck so I don't use them even though you can view most stuff for free), and netflix does it with movies and TV. I don't see why someone can't do it with manga (wouldn't be surprised if it already exists too, just haven't looked for it).

I remember when the videos were uploaded by the users, it was awesome.
Then they went legal, and now it's almost as bad as DVDs from local stores.
People wonder why anime gets pirated... they need look no further.

Exactly.
Its one of the first examples that comes to mind of good things that get changed for the worse.
