This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. You can not register, post or otherwise interact with the site other than browsing the content for historical purposes. The content is provided as-is, from the moment of the last backup taken of the database in 2019. I dont think we have had a thread about this...But we might have, so I apologize.
On some other forums they have a section, which pretty much takes some of the more historical threads, and puts them in a section together, they are sealed, like, you cant post in them anymore, but I still think it would be nice.
We could start by putting some in, like the first nation thread, or whatever, and then we could create a forum wide event, where you have to suggest a thread that meets certain criteria, like, X number of pages, hasnt been posted in in X months. Then say WHY you think its historical to the nation, and then we have a vote to pick out a thread or two to place in the section.

The problem with your second part: people might end up just spamming threads they think are "epic" and deserve to be archieved.(like how people on 4chan abuse their archive whenever there's a bunch of 'gets')

I think it's unnecessary, since really, the only people who would care are the original guru members and some select currently active members.
If all the threads are locked, nothing gets bumped, and new users don't read it.
Also, like Xemnas said, there would just be a bunch of spam threads suggested that really don't mean anything at all.

interesting, it would be kind of like a 'goldmine', like the forum SomethingAwful has. I don't recall how that system works though.
It is worth looking into.

Interesting.
What do you think would fit in?
420 day 8D (National Spam Day)...
1st Member's Awards (New years event)
hmm...

goldmine only works because those threads are actually funny to most people who read them. most of the threads that are funny to regulars here would be completely irrelevant to new users, js.
plus, SA forums are huge.

not all great threads are purely inside jokes, although yes, having a smaller community means that people know each other to that extent and is common, which is why there's a family tree which was dubbed greatest thread of the year.
there are many things that make a great thread, and humour is merely one of them. I wasn't referring to the goldmine in such a strict fashion.

I can never find myself remembering to log into Nation.
I would love to have a goldmine of threads I can just read into.
I mean, even with inside jokes, it certainly couldn't be that hard-this community is hilarious either way.

'Dubbed greatest thread of the year'. I'm assuming it has been dubbed that by the group of people that know each other and have these inside jokes, that are apart of the 'family tree'.

It can work, but at the same time moving those threads into there might just kill them off if they currently are alive (either by lack of new posts or going off topic from becoming "historical"). If it's old, inactive threads that wouldn't be posted into anymore otherwise, then I'd go for it.
