Sound stopped working

So my computer's been suffering from increasingly frequent crashes and BSODs, from what, I have no idea. Today, it got so bad that my computer got a BSOD as soon as I logged into the computer, every time I rebooted.

In the end, I resorted to doing a partition thingy and bring my hard drive to factory conditions, and here I am now, with a nearly blank computer.

Ever since then, though, my sound stopped working, again, for reasons that are beyond me. I tried browsing through the control panels but all the settings say that the volume is up. My speakers are in my monitor, and the sound control on the side of the monitor says that it's at 100%.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Sound card drivers probably. Find the driver CD that came with your computer/motherboard and reinstall all the drivers.

Thanks for the speedy response.
This monitor is around 5 years old. I don't know if we still have the box it came in, let alone the stuff inside it.
Is there anything else that could be done?

Edit: I just checked the control panel again, under sounds again, and "Manage audio devices". I can hear the tunes for testing, and they clearly come from the speakers. However, sounds such as clicking links, sticky keys from mashing Shift, YouTube videos, etc don't work. Does this change the situation?

If it work under testing, then make sure the sound device that plays through the speakers is set as the Default Sound Device. It should have a green circle and checkmark on it.
