i think i've seen some people use the lightning wand for using thunder. isnt the crystal lightning wand better?? statwise it's superior but upgrades... im sort of confused.
178 crystal lightning is best for thunder correct??
i wish lightning wand was the better one though, because it's cute lul.

It's rather situational. A normal -mp lightning wand is fairly universal but in some cases you'll want a speed wand. With speed comes damage reduction though, if memory serves, so it's not an option available to everyone.
Personally I just use the -mp wand. Wand stats are...fairly insignificant.

but mana reduce upgrades also reduce magic damage.
there's the 151 = 40% mana reduce, -35 magic damage
and the 178 = 16% mana reduce, -14 magic damage, 12%+ casting speed.
i guesss you use the 178 then ?? >.< sorry im just confused.

I use the normal lightning wand, mana reduction without any of the other stuff.

if you're gonna use thunder for killing normal monsters i'd go with the regular wand with -MP
The crystal lightning wand i Like to use with high ranked thunder while rafting
upgraded with -45% MP usage, at r1 Thunder the -35% damage doesn't matter on rafting since they die anyways xD
the MP use lowering helps a lot on the raft since the dmg penalty doesn't affect it that much.
but aside from weak monsters and spamming crystal making without needing super high-ranked crystals (since the -dmg% lowers crystal rank) it seems like the regular wand upgraded for -MP cost is, like Juno said, more universal.
I'd go with the regular wand for hurting strong things.
But My thunder is just rank 9 xD so I don't attack strong things with it, so i use the -45% MP usage crystal wand :P

I use fastest speed and -mp crystal lightning wand with mana reduction set (made with one item having suffix mana magician and ranked magic mastery to C, it's also needed for blaze so I'm killing two birds with one stone).
The mana reduction set is very important to me as I don't really have much mp (only about 200-250 with all the equips on).
That wand works ok for me since Rank D thunder, though Rank 9 is probably the recommended level for it.

Depends on what you're using it for.
One of the things I don't like about Thunder is how slow it is, so I like the speedcast upgrades.
But, for things such as rafting that have really low HP, the damage loss won't matter so much. In this case, the mana reduction path is also viable. As far as damage goes, the 151 is more efficient in mana even in extremely hard dungeons, just slower.

well i was gonna follow juno's path before i saw the rest of your posts.
i guess my goal is to get it to rank 6 and be able to get 31+ stars at rafting solo. ã… .ã…
so... since you say the hobgoblins have low hp so the -magic damage wont matter, are you recommending the crystal wand with 151 path?

I use a crystal wand upgraded for speed casting, but without the 5th upgrade. So it only has the +6% Mana reduction, -5% dmg reduction and the +12% casting speed. But I use my wand for rafting and Ciar Adv. so I don't want the extra dmg reduction.
The speed casting with r1 Thunder makes it godly when rafting. When I'm just loafing I get 60+ stars per trip and around 75+ stars if I'm really trying.

I use the speedcast but I go ahead and go all the way to gem upgrade.
+12% speed 20% mp reduction and i think -16% damage. At r1 its perfect for rafting. At lower levels it might not be. If your stopping at 5,6 then dont do last 2 upgrades.

with base int as 204 at [lvl 54, age 18, expl 16] will rank 6 thunder be able to beat the raft hobgoblins easily with -35% damage??

Archibald wrote on 2010-05-23 21:19
no it wont. Use the crystal wand with 4/5 upgrades for 12% speed. Your not going to get a mana reduction wand to work. Also to make it mana positive take a few rafts and get mp 50's or mana herbs. Not hard to do.

mmm well someone had said that casting speed doesn't matter for rafting... xD i totally forgot about that comment and just bought a crystal wand. drats. well w/e xD i guess ill follow archi's advice, since speed is good elsewhere.

Casting speed matters everywhere. Wand stats are far from insignificant. =P
