Thinking about making a Wiki page and form a team for another game. How do we make a Wiki page like the one in wiki.mabinogiworld.com? Do we have to pay?
I found out how to make Wikia, but I like the simplicity of Wiki best.

wiki you have to download the software (it's free open source) and get web hosting configured for it. Then configure the wiki to suit your needs. Hosting can be free but good luck finding quality free hosting that has everything you need, also if it grows large enough free hosting won't be suitable any longer.

Hmm, do you have any suggestions on the web hosting and software? I couldn't find any information about that on Wiki; I do have one sub-domain I'm using from Grumpy (The Company Scanlation's Admin (: let me use it as forum), maybe I could link that up somehow.. or would I need a new one?

if it supports everything you need for wiki you can easily do your.subdomain.com/wiki or something.
You need an up to date version of PHP and MySQL, and FTP access.
Here's where you download the wiki website files:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki
It also has all the info you need.
I haven't checked out any basic hosting providers in a long time so I can't suggest anything.

Thanks! (:
I'm using cPanel X - how would we add a your.subdomain/wiki part to that?
Disk space usage: 1,000 MB Monthly Bandwidth Transfer: 100000 MB cPanel Version 11.28.87 Hosting package 110
^General Info x.x
I found sub-domain:
For example, if your domain is your.grumpyland.com a sub-domain of your domain might be support.your.grumpyland.com. <-- would that be it?
Sorry, I'm really new to this kind of thing XD I would +REP you but I repped you already sometime recently before so it won't let me

you can just create a folder via ftp called wiki, at the root of your ftp directory. When you type /wiki at the end of your subdomain url, it'll go to the wiki once it's installed in there.

Don't forget to install extensions.
Parserfunction is the must have extension that all wikis should get.

Thanks! Will I need the extension? I'll get it anyways. x3

Sorry for the double-post but I have one more question about Disk Space Usage.
If the Disk Space Usage for our subdomain/website is full (my limit is only 1,000 and I've already used 177), how do we increase it? Should I contact my subdomain host? Can it be increased?
-
Cucurbita wrote on 2011-05-14 16:00
You should be able to increase it by contacting your host, but they'll probably charge you extra for it.
You're working with a pretty small cap though. And there are probably a lot cheaper alternatives if you look around, but I don't know how much your host will charge.

Ohh, I see. The host is actually the admin of a Scanlation Group I translate for~ so I got it for free XD
I found another host that offers FREE with no limit to disk space (x10 hosting?) but is there a way to transfer my forums & wiki without losing any data?

Check if both hosts have something called phpmyadmin installed that you can use. If they do you can do it without having to ask them.
