Getting black or white with regular dyes are easiest, because it's not so hard to find 3/5, easier for black.
For different colours, you'd be lucky to get 2/5 which are similar to each other.
There are programs out there which find them for you, but it's probably against the rules to mention any names.
The best way to dye is to practice. It can take a long long time to even dye one part.

There is no "good way" to get the colors you want, since each palette is completely random. I will give you some tips:
1. Go for at least 3-4 colors that you like or are similar to the one you want, so it won't be such a loss for you if you fail.
2. Color rivers. Streams of color flow through the palette. Study the palette before you start choosing colors, and follow them and try to connect your cursors with the different color rivers.
3. Dye only certain items since each item may have a different palette exclusive to itself. For example, leather items have their own special palette consisting of mostly browns since leather is usually found as brown. Special event items or items that come off rebirth cards may have their own special dye palettes as well.
4. Look for your certain color first before picking your colors randomly. If there isn't an abundance of it, just pick a clothing part(if any) different from the part you picked, then revert back to the part you're trying to dye. The palette will reset, and hopefully there will be the colors you want. Repeat this as many times if neccesary.
5. Tiny Pixels usually store pure whites or pure blacks in color rivers. Utilize them if you want pure whites or pure blacks.
6. Patience. It can take up to 10-30 minutes just to dye one part, since finding the right colors is important.
You can use a program that magnifies the dye palette, but I'm not sure what it is and you shouldn't be really using it in the first place.
Like Kazuni(who ninja'd me D:) said, the best way is to practice. Having a stable hand helps sometimes.

Yeah, and there is really no "really good" at using dyes. Most of the time it's about luck. Remember, even with a 4/5 palette you still have a 20% chance of not getting the colour you want.

You can easily get 4/5 colors with this software.

what colors are you trying to get 허니? the key is to have alternatives that you will be satisfied with. for example when i dye a part, im hoping for navy but i can also be content with white or black. i take a really long time dyeing but i can get 3-4 colors i like out of 5. it succeeds most of the time. like i bought 3 reg dyes and got 2 colors that i wanted, and it took me 2 metal dyes to get the color i wanted. i can help u if im not with friends or doing something important~~ my ign is Mahalkitaa

Windows Magnifier is an Accessibility tool, for people with poor eyesight, or for use in high resolution situations. I run my comp at 1600x1200, so I use it when I want to zoom in on an image. Very useful for zeroing in on a specific pixel with one of the dye droppers. Start->Programs->Accessories->Accessibility->Magnifier. Part of Windows.

i actually tried using it a couple times for finish and maybe i'm very slow at it, but i found it a lot harder with the magnifier due to not being able to see where my next x was very easily.

You only look at the box when youve gotten over what you think is perfect. The look over to the magnifyer and adjust till its actually perfct. Click button. Go back to original box and move tp next spot. Lower mouse sensitivity some will help alot.
FYI: This will take some practice but I think I can sigg a ton of things using this.
