I just figured it to be a troll post. While I can agree on how making us all the legendary heroes is silly in its own way, the Mabinogi character depicted hardly seems to carry the dimensions or proportions of a "little person". But then, maybe they forgot that all the little characters running around in Mabinogi are only 10 years old or so, having recently gone through a rebirth.
WELL EXPLAIN THIS LITTLE MISSY... WH..Y ARE... THE MABINOGIANS OR WHATEVER THERE CALLED ANIME?

I don't think you're understanding that the heroes in Vindictus are the heroes in some legends in Mabinogi. Legatus, if you talk to him, will tell you about legendary heroes named Lann and Fiona. They already exist, technically. The developers cannot just say "oky lets make lann boy or grl bcuz som1 like itbetter" because the heroes already had names/genders/weapons/classes/whatever.
And also, technically the people in Vindictus and NPCs in Mabinogi are of a race called Tuatha de Dann, while the players in Mabinogi are Milletians, but I forget whose bigger in height. I think Milletians, so, no, they're not "midgets."
Why would I understand? I don't even play mabinogi, nor do I intend to, here is a thought Why not change the names or just not mention the names at all, Is it that important? And they aren't Lann, Evie, Fiona, Karok, and Kai, its more like this (YOUR IGN HERE) (YOUR IGN HERE) (YOUR IGN HERE) (YOUR IGN HERE) (YOUR IGN HERE)

They said the artwork was all male, as evidenced by the lack of skin and questionably fitted armor. They're considering changing him to a girl due to the demands of the asian market.
****ing asians so horny yet have small...... nvm.
Should be both imo :P

Yes it is important. The name of the game is, after all,
Mabinogi: Heroes, and talks about the heroes of Mabinogi.
But I do feel they should make a female non-hero version of Lann, a male non-hero version of Fiona, etc.

I see nothing wrong with that considering you're not actually a legend either way.

Mabinogi only mentioned the names, nothing about class, gender, weapon etc. It's quite flexible what the devs can do about with only names being the limitation.
Also, they can add more heroes (like they mentioned more characters than 5), and just say "oh, it's a hero that the dragon forgot to mentioned". Even suddenly making gender choice viable, by stating "it was only names that were mentioned, but the gender was always a myth, or that their gender changed from tale to tale".
See, it's not really "being consistent with the story," because the devs can come up with thousands of reasons to let certain changes justified.
If Mabinogi's story was deeply revolved around the legendary heroes, then they can't really make changes. But right now, only one dragon has talked about it, and devs can always blame on the dragon for mis-informative, or the dragon was lying to you in the first place and the devs had planned to fool you all along.
What's really the problem is that the class related quest plot are often gender based, and remodeling a class armor to a different gender will be a pain. (Evie, Fiona, and Lann all have different looks, even on shared armors like blood prince)
Not mentioning dealing with player responses, people who want no gender change, people who made a class and want to gender change, people who keep saying it's not consistent with the story (there still will be people complaining, even if you explained all possible logic to them), people who just hates changes, and people who just want to complain.
But, if the demand is high, they will always do it. Just like how they are considering female Kai now because the market is looking for it. There's no "gender can't change so story can be consistent", it's always about appealing to the market.
"Sticking to old plan/idea is good, but sometimes you just need to change for a better one."

I agree with this, but nothing else really. Besides, the hero/heroine will only have one gender in truth, regardless of if his or her gender changed in different legends due to changes when the stories were passed down.
Not saying this is true, but I feel it's possible that they've already weaved further, more in-depth stories for either Mabinogi or Mabinogi: Heroes that involve more information about the heroes, so they probably wouldn't care to make the classes un-gender-locked.
There is always the possibility that they'll make a female duel-sword type, though. But it would have to have a different name for it would be a different hero(ine.)

Isn't it possible that after so many years, the dragons forgot what gender the heroes were? Or just didn't care, I mean, they are dragons. (plus Legatus probaby sees hundred of rebirthed and gender-swapped mabinogians every single day e_e)

I mean, yeah, they could do that, but it feels too much like they're changing the story line. Plus it's a frocking dragon. Just seems kind of funny for a dragon to forget something so basic.
I mean, I'm not a fan of gender lock, but I don't think making all the heroes unlocked is the way to go, either.

pfft. Legatus doesn't even notice when I start the day as a 20 year old warrior woman, then come back later as a ten-year-old blond boy xD
But actually, in the actual dialogue genders are never mentioned. (and only fiona and lan are mentioned by name xD)
But I am a fan of the gender-lock. I like the role-playing aspect, and wouldn't want to make all of them unlocked ^^ I dont care if they make kai a girl or not though.

I'd imagine that it would be possible for devCat to include information about the heroes in later Mabinogi generations. So there probably will be more information on them if they decide to expand on this part of the past like I hope they do.

Releasing gender locks would be interesting, although it doesn't really bother me. They would have to redefine the characters as their class rather than their name, which would detract somewhat from the Heroes aspect, but a lot of players can't seem to stand playing as another gender to be the class they want and whine incessantly about it.
