I've been wondering this myself since the last patch.

They were lightning elemental not fire.
Only reason people used fire was from the ones that shoot fire at you.

That could be true, since I've been hitting less dmg lately, or was that because i rebirthed...hmm.....anyone else notice differences?

They were fire.
Rank 1 Icebolt, Rank 5 Firebolt (both xx-80 damage)
Icebolt = 110 damage
Firebolt = 50 damage
That was before, haven't tested after yet.

Seemed like fire to me too.
Before patch:
R9 Ice = 80dmg
R1 Fire = 80dmg
After:
Did not try yet/do not remember.

I haven't really noticed it yet on the other monsters except I believe the Shadow Wizards are still very heavy fire elemental or something. They still enormous amount of damage from my ice enchants.

they were fire, according to wiki. i don't know about now, though. they have made sm's harder, but im also wondering if they removed the fire element yet.

even if your doing 50's in advanced shadow warrior you shouldn't really be doing it lol no offense :/ a good time to start isn't really based on base dmg so much but if you got usually rank 5+ wm and smash and decent defense and pet control its uber easy

Although I didn't directly test yet, I was mining with my elf on Stones of Sliab Cuillin. The enemies' hp and def were unaltered post g9s3 and they were of course, non-elemental before and after.

Or just get r1 summon golem. My secondary has a total below 300 and stone golems hit 300s-400s with a smash which puts most early-mid game players to shame (Tested in a shadow wiz basic and provocation int btw). The damage is enough to rival some end game players but obviously they hit harder. You still have the advantage of golem speed and extremely reliable DPS support. Of course the disadvantages is getting aggroed, getting hit and the golem's control range. Since my secondary char is an elf, hide (since your char is not directly fighting) allows me to avoid those and re-position myself safely in most cases. If hide isn't available or you get hit, use a pet to quickly distract and resume control of golem.
The golem is also a good tank too if you aren't spamming wm excessively. It can have high 400s hp. The provocation commander on int did only 20s on my stone golem with normal attack. It also has all 3 pds with each a chance to activate.

I will dread the day they remove Fire attribute from these Shadow monsters. :(
Then again, it will just open more options for me, I think. I have a REAL hard time fighting those Ice Grumbills because of my Ice enchants. I always curse.

wow really. i barely make a dent in adv shadow monsters because my damage sux so bad. base str around 160, smash master, wm 1, def 5. i stay away from soloing adv sm's because i take so dam long trying to kill one thing, and they deal too much damage to me if they catch me unawares.

I only have that rank 5+ wm and I was able to do that mission fairly easily(except fighters)
Now, even on a archer, I have trouble.The point of my post wasnt to show if i'm able or not to do that mission, but to show something changed(although its only based on personal experience)

I didn't have a lost of trouble with that mission in adv. I only lost health usually because of wm and sometimes getting hit by archers. It doesn't feel like anything changed. @@;;
