My Left CTRL on my laptop has broken down, leaving me to press the rubber thing to target things. But I wonder if there is a way to change this key to another hotkey.

I would imagine that if there is a way, it'd be where you change all of your other hotkeys.
If there isn't a spot for it there, then I just don't know.

My laptop was destroyed by a person I lent it to, so I had to move to this horribly old, slow, and laggy laptop.
The control key is awkwardly placed just so that I can't reach it without contorting my arm into abnormal positions.
So far I haven't found any way to change the hotkey...

You can assign a keyboard key and/or mouse key to be ctrl instead of ctrl itself.
There are some applications for that, sicne you use a Laptop you could switch the FN key to ctrl.

This is how you will have to do it.
There is no way to change the target key in mabi. :(

I hope that you're comfortable working with the registry editor. Make sure to be careful as minor mistakes can cause system instability.
I've personally disabled my caps lock key using the registry editor. It's not very difficult. Your objective is more complicated, so take it slow.
This reference should explain the process pretty well. You should remap your key to caps lock.
