Kay so I have a Dell laptop, inspiron 1525 or something or other and this morning the top got slammed down pretty hard. Now it's not starting up, or at least, windows isn't running.
About 6 hours it got slammed down I opened it again and nothing was responding, the cursor wouldn't move. I turned it off using the power button.
It goes to the little scrolly bar thing with windows written under it, but after that it goes completely blank. The startup repair isn't working either, it goes to the "blue screen of death" with other crap like error #######.
Help?

can you go into safe mode?

When it goes to the blue screen of death, check to see what it says after "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." Write that down and Google it and see if you can find the answer to fix it.

Calling Dell customer service probably won't give you any answers that you couldn't get off Google, but I'd recommend you give it a try anyways. See if you can't scrounge up your original payment receipt (if you laptop is still under the 1 year warranty).
Last time when my monitor went on the fritz they were pretty good about taking it back right away and having it fixed.

Why was it slammed hard?

Kay turns out my hard drive went kaput and overheated.
Now I can't make out my service tag because it's so freaking screwed up and smudged, and I don't know how much warranty time I have left if I'm going to change my hard drive.
The service tag thing is needed for practically all customer support and the only other way to find the tag is to go on the dell website and have them scan my laptop, which is impossible, as it won't even start up.
I did the .. test stuff and basically it failed because it couldn't read off the disk.
Error code 0F00:0244
"Can't read: replace disk or disable write protection"
Yeah, I've googled it. People can either access safe mode or they've replaced their drive.

Haha yea this thing overheats like crazy. I have it positioned crooked with the fan side hanging off the table so that my desk doesn't melt.
I think if you login to whatever account you used to order the laptop on the website, it might still have the order history with your computer's information on it. If that fails, you can always try calling customer service and see where that gets you.

Ah, stupid overheating.
What to do:
Have an air conditioner that has it's cold air vent at the top (where the cool air comes out) and place laptop with the fan on it.
Turn on.
Should work.

Problem is, I don't have an air conditioner. And yeah, I called the 24/7 service and got my numbers but they just gave me someone else to call. I do have to change my hard drive though, so there [possibly] goes all my files and programs.
On the bright side, I know someone who might be able to get my files off the broken drive if it's not in horrible condition. Perfect time for me to upgrade my disk space, though, I was seriously running out. My dad promised me 300GB and I'm gonna be pissed off if he doesn't go through with it.
The only thing I seriously can't replace is the essay I wrote for math. That thing is like 6 pages and due on Monday, guh. Now I have to spend tomorrow working on it with either my dad's or my mom's computer, both of which have keyboards I'm so not used to.

Probably damaged the cooling fan or hard drive directly.

Yeah that's what I thought. Though the cooling fan was really lame anyways. My computer would be scalding at the end of a typical weekend day.

Use it less?

I don't even use it much. I'm always afk with only chrome running three tabs.. And the screen would be down because I hate leaving it up and practically burning my fingers when I type.

Get a cooling fan.
Like, now, or use an air conditioner.
Mine keeps my laptop cool.
