Server maintenance is easy, I do it all the time.
The issue was probably because devCat didn't do something properly, and doesn't care abou the NA version of the game, which tends to always be the case with games that are published by someone other than the developer.
Pray tell, What server maintenance have you done? Googling "Hw 2 fx mai maplestory praivut surver" Does not mean your pro, OR mean its easy.
Sorry to tell you the truth.
Then again, If Nexon googled "Hw 2 fx mai mubinogi" We'd probaly get better results...
I'm a network administrator for a bandwidth provider, so I mean actual server maintenance, and not maintenance to their game.
All of their game maintenance could be cut down if they actually went about it logically (Separate days for each game, pre-testing before release, QA department approval before release).
Might want to drop the sarcasm, because I can be a douche too if you want.
I was meaning the actual game, Not that i know anything of maintenance, But im sure its a hell of a lot different then your type of maintenance ~ And i think, They would get the people "Why do we have to wait 6hours for Patching? MABINOGI GOT THERES FINISHED JUST BEFORE!"
Idiocy regulates all logical thinking, You cant stop it, You cant help it.
Be sarcastic all you want =] But make sure your super cute (And hot) When you do it...........Lolwhat?
*Cough*
We will be performing routine server maintenance on Tuesday June 1st at 10:00 PM PDT. During this period, all games will be unavailable. This maintenance will last approximately 12 hours.
I don't know the exact procedure for their server update, however most game companies include hardware and OS maintenance, which is what would take the majority of their time. As for updates to the game server, and database, it is probably super simple.
I've stated it in other posts, but if they did separate maintenances into different days (Maplestory one day, Mabinogi another, DFO another, etcetc) they're going to get more respect from their players, even if each indiviual game takes a long time. Where one game update could take as little as 1-2 hours, another could take up as much as 6-7 hours, if theres a severe issue (With one of my projects, we had an issue that caused a stack overflow due to a typo). As it is now, any update will push back ALL games going online, and not just the one.
Also, without having actually looking into it, they're likely to have ALL of their games on a single server. Servers and bandwidth are -cheap- in comparison to the amounts they make (Don't say 'oh they don't make much', because everyone should know differently with the multiple companies they've bought in the last two months).
Idiocy might regulate all logical thinking, however it isn't hard to force an idiot to see logic if its thrown directly into their face. Its been proven time and time again.
And who was being sarcastic? I was just saying I could be a douche as well, and I'm likely to be better at it, I've just chosen not to on this site up until this point.
(maybe their technicians/computer pplz are on holis o_O)
