It's actually far more beautiful in reality, unless your region is ravaged by war.

As far as individual bad situations go, I'm not sure that's what he meant, but rather a weltschmerz, or a kind of "nay-saying" nihilism.

You make it sound like life is all that horrible, when it really isn't. Sure, bills and debts and all that crap sucks, but when you take a moment to sit outside and breathe and perhaps watch little kids playing at the park or old couples walking down the street holding hands, you realize that it isn't that bad; that it could be worse.

Gotta see the bright side of things sometimes. It's what keeps us going forward.
