The future of social networking? I think the answer is pretty simple: Facebook is going to reign supreme for a long, long time. Facebook has impacted so heavily into the social market that it is extremely hard to believe they will be defeated any time soon.
People were saying that about Myspace. Design, implementation and marketing matters a lot more than you're giving it credit for. :P

Do you use MSN or Skype?
no, i dont. Skype is for pedos looking for underage children. all the people i know irl who have skype say they only get on there to check out members of the opposite/same gender, so point proven. not the least bit interested in MSN, and i dont use hotmail.
Quote from Yoorah;499054:
Facebook is mainly for girls who want to "market" themselves to men by posting tons of pics of themselves. And the guys who like to stare at said pics.
It has little to do with social networking, or friends, for that matter.
this is 100% true for any "social networking site". Skype, MSN, Facebook, Myspace etc. all fall under this category.

Kinda off topic, but I think you hang out with the wrong crowd. :P MSN, at least, is more of a chat/communication tool, than anything. Skype, I'd imagine, is the same. I mean, sure, there may be creepers on Skype and MSN (I've had a horrible encounter with mexicans spamming the hell out of my MSN because someone told them I was a girl).. but that's not the purpose of those services. D: The "social networking" thing, though ... yeahhhh.

A lot of businesses use skype for calls and video chat. We all have it open 24/7 at work because half our clients use it.
It's basically msn without the bull****, and it works a ton better. I left msn for it, along with all my contacts who didn't have skype.

I am giving design, implementation and marketing a ton of credit. Without those 3 things, Facebook wouldn't have succeeded. I'm just saying that the impact Facebook has left on society is so much bigger than Myspace.

I log on facebook for school mainly, and keeping in touch with friends who don't like or have msn/skype, which would be roughly 95% of my friends and classmates.
Friends I've made over the internet, I keep on skype/msn. I see facebook as a local/people you've met in person kind of place to communicate in, and don't like mixing the two, personally.
I'm interested in google+ only because they claim to do what facebook has done wrong. Only time will tell if it takes off, it really depends on how they market it.

If you think about, Mabination itself is like a social network, you got profiles, people can post on your wall, you make friends, groups, etc., and people with the same interests seem to read the same threads and become friends, thus creating stronger 'circles'. WHAT YOU GONNA SAY NOW KOLLIN

From a technical point of view, I think google has all the tools needed to beat facebook in the social network arena. It has the power in terms of money and corporate size, it has the technical infrastructure, and most of the services they already offer would be great for a social network to make use of.
Only problem is, they already failed horribly with that Buzz nonsense, so now they're starting off with a bad rep. They're going to need ridiculously good marketing and business strategies to make it work at all, and even better yet to come close to competing with facebook.

You do realize your talking about GOOGLE.. the # 1 search engine and technological infrastructure the internet has ever known right?
I'm sure they can handle it :)

And facebook has a leash on just about anyone who would be interested in a social network.
Google is going to have to convince those people that they are better, not to mention most of those people are already established on facebook with contacts and photos and all their facebook apps/games. A lot of people also use facebook connect to login to websites.
Google+ won't have any of it.

Facebook = Preteens to mid 20's maybe early 30's
Google+ = For Business Clients and the more technical group of our generation

I'm not denying that. The point was that Myspace was seen as the social network giant at the time, yet something better came out and stole market share, eventually surpassing it. It would be harder to do the same now, but just because the bar was raised, doesn't mean it's undoable. Facebook managed to do it as a tiny start-up. Going into this, Google has more resources in terms of infrastructure, services, development capabilities and brand recognition, compared to Facebook, when it entered the market. So I think it evens out.
In the end, what matters is if Google's idea is well received. I personally think it's well thought out, so I believe they could compete with Facebook.
