The cat's currently has a 100GB hard drive that's about 4 years old
Noticed that there's currently a lot of hard drives in the $50-100 range that are 1TB to 2TB memory with 7200 RPM
The fact that the cat needs more storage makes the cat feel like buying a new hard drive.
Can't pick between 1TB or 2TB (ideal size)
What the cat plans on using the space for
-Installing Windows OS. and System backup
-Video games. This is the cat's biggest issue atm. The cat wants to keep these huge games like Starcraft II, Fallout, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2 etc. It's very inconvenient for the cat to waste electricity and time in downloading these games just to play.
-Music. Currently, the cat keeps extra space in case of more games. Would love to have a huge playlist again.
-Movies. Storing movies to watch at Bluray quality like Evangelion.

An SSD is usually move loved for OS and such, however if you're set on getting a HDD that you want to use for games and your OS, I'd probably go with a 1TB, they're usually faster and are much more reliable.
If you could afford it, you should get a slower 2TB HDD after this one.

I only have a 1TB large hard drive, and I thought it wasn't going to be enough but it's proven to actually be quite a massive beast. I have every game you listed, Starcraft II, TF2, Left4Dead, etc. I even have the whole Valve pack and many MMO's (most of which I don't even play.) I have The Sims 2 with most expansions, The Sims 3 with every expansion, I even have a huge folder for movies. Although I don't save a lot of music...I have around 17 songs
Even with all the random crap that I have, I'm only using around 400GB of space. I guess I overestimated how big all my games were... But I definitely think 1TB is enough space unless you're like my friend who has 3TB of music, (He's a DJ) you are probably going to be fine with a terrabyte and you'll save a lot of money:2thumb:

I wouldn't go for 2TB unless you plan on making tons of animations, videos, photos, etc. And I mean TONS.
If you're just a gamer, 1TB should be just enough to store some footage of your gaming and have plenty of games installed at a time.

A 1TB HDD seems like a good choice for a gamer/music storage like you. I just built my desktop with a 80gb SSD as OS + 2 or 3 main gaming and a 2TB HDD as storage for music/video/other games that don't need to be loaded fast. Right now my HDD is completely empty ^^; but I have an external 2TB HDD that ate about 500gb+ of anime/music/programs/games that I backed up from my old desktop and DVD/CDs I burned.
If you are thinking about a SSD a 40GB is around $90 and a 80GB is around $160 (go any higher they can break $500, yes they are expensive ;_;) But for storage and if you arnt worried about few seconds slower loading than a SSD, than a 1TB HD is more than enough :]

1TB will be more reliable. 2TB seem to have a higher failure rate. I don't suggest them unless you have them in a fault tolerant RAID setup + make good backups regularly. I would even suggest to drop down to 500GB if using a single drive only.
Also, when having so much data on a single disk, make sure to always have good backups on a separate physical device.

I was gonna say more or less what Osayidan said. 1TB is more than enough space, except if you do a lot of video editing projects where work may be saved in uncompressed format, which results in -massive- file sizes. For the purposes you listed, 1TB is more than enough.

The cat is silly, Claudia has a 150GB HDD and hasn't even used 1/3rd of it.
1TB max yo.

Kinda off topic: I never thought I would see a 1TB hard drive in my life.
I mean, I still remember the 1.44 MB floppy disks ò.ó
That being said, 1 TByte is a LOT of disk space: 1k GBytes, which is 1k*1k MBytes... that is one trillion bytes.
On topic: So 1 TB would be enough for your needs.

a $50-100 hard drive would be about 100GB.
now it's 1-2 TB
